NHL Playoffs & NBA scores, Dwight Howard, Derek Fisher & Jarrod Uthoff: 4/20, Vol. 125, 1st Edition

You’ve gone through the fire and you’ve been through the flood, you’ve been broken into pieces, seen lightning flashing from above, but through it all, you remember that He loves you and He cares, and He'll never put more on you than you can bear! Good morning and welcome back to your Spiritual Sports Segment on Rhema Gospel Radio better than when you heard it yesterday, I’m C.E.E.J.A.Y!  Let’s Get It Started!

There were four playoff games last night on the ice in the National Hockey League, two in the east and two in the west as the Florida Panthers were properly SHUT OUT and dominated by the New Jersey Devils 4-0 as Martin Brodeur set a record with his 24th playoff shutout to even the series 2 all, the defending champions Boston Bruins lost by one goal to the Washington Capitals 2-1 as Braden Holtby with had 44 saves to also even the series 2 all, the Phoenix Coyotes needed overtime to skate past the Chicago Blackhawks 3-2 as the Coyotes take a commanding 3-1 series lead and the St. Louis Blues got past the San Jose Sharks 2-1 as David Perron and Patrik Berglund each had 2 assists to take a controlling 3-1 series lead.

There were only five games on the hard court last in the National Basketball Association, but they were some good ones starting with the first nationally televised game and what many think could the precursor to the Eastern Conference Final as the Chicago Bulls, who was without Derrick Rose battled the Miami Heat and they fought a good, hard battle but came up on the losing end 83-72 as Lebron James had a double-double with 27 points and 11 rebounds, the Milwaukee Bucks was defeated by the Indiana Pacers 118-109 as Danny Granger had a game high of 29 points as the Pacers lock up home court advantage in the first round of the playoffs, the Minnesota Timberwolves outplayed the Detroit Pistons 91-80 as Nikola Pekovic had a game high of 23 points, while the Houston Rockets not only lost to the New Orleans Hornets 105-99 in overtime, but they also most likely lost hope of making the playoffs as Eric Gordon netted 27 points and in the second nationally televised game, the Lob City Clippers went down to the wire against the Phoenix Suns but lost 93-90 as the Suns needed the win to maintain a tie for the 8th seed in the playoff as Jared Dudley scored 18 points .  And on a playoff berthing note, the New York Knicks and the defending champion Dallas Mavericks both have clinched playoff berths.

In breaking news last night, after receiving a second opinion in Los Angeles and being diagnosed with a herniated disk, Orlando Magic star center Dwight Howard will have surgery and not only miss the remaining regular season and the playoffs, but also will not participate in the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.  After receiving an epidural with the plan of resting for 10-14 days and then being re-evaluated to determine if he could play, it was determined surgery was necessary and the timetable for recovery is from 4-6 months.

After being an instrumental figure during the NBA lockout last year, current Oklahoma City Thunder and former LA Lakers guard Derek Fisher, is refusing to resign from his position as Union President at the urging of the NBA’s Players’ Association executive committee.  In fact, according to sources, Fisher has been gathering support from players to challenge the business and financial practices of the executive director of the NBAPA Billy Hunter.  Both Fisher and Hunter have two years and three years respectfully left on their contracts.

After meeting with Wisconsin athletic officials on Thursday, Jarrod Uthoff, basketball player for coach Bo Ryan’s Badgers, had restrictions lifted concerning his transfer, with the exception for Big Ten schools, which is common practice.
