the London Summer Olympics
There were a pair of playoff games in the National Basketball Association last night as the Boston Celtics looked to exact revenge on the home court of the Philadelphia 76er’s and C’s came out gunning especially Kevin Garnett who scorched the 76er’s for 27 points and grabbed 13 boards, Paul Pierce netted 24 points and hauled in 12 rebounds and Rajon Rondo poured in 23 points dished out 14 dimes as the Celtics smothered the 76er’s 107-91 to take a 2-1 series lead and in the second game, the weary, dreary LA Lakers looked to bounce back from the drubbing they took on the chin from the Oklahoma City Thunder in the first game and the Lakers had the game but costly turnovers and not converting down the stretch that did them in as they lost to the Thunder 77-75 as the Thunder jump shot wasn’t as hot, but Kevin Durant netted 22 points as they take a commanding 2-0 series.

The Eastern Conference Finals skated on in the National Hockey League as the New Jersey Devils eked out a one goal win against the New York Rangers 3-2 Ilya Kovalchuk, Ryan Carter and David Clarkson all scored a goal as the Devils tie the series 1-1.

The American League in Major League Baseball had plenty of games on the diamond as the Boston Red Sox lost by one run to the Tampa Bay Rays 2-1as Jeremy Hellickson remained undefeated and notched his 4th win, the Seattle Mariners were blasted by the Cleveland Indians 9-3 as Travis Hafner went yard, the Minnesota Twins scored plenty of runs as they dominate the Detroit Tigers 11-7 as Trevor Plouffe provided a homerun as a cushion, the New York Yankees were manhandled by the Toronto Blue Jays 8-1 as Edwin Encarnacion belted his 13th homer, while the Oakland A’s lost to the Texas Rangers 4-1 as Yu Darvish notched his 6th win, the Baltimore Orioles needed 15 innings to knock off the Kansas City Royals 4-3 as Adam Jones launched his 12th homer and  the Chicago White Sox were crushed by the LA Angels as Albert Pujos belted his 2nd homer.

For your Summer Olympic News, flyweight Marlen Esparza has become the first American female boxer to qualify for the London Olympics, the Anaheim Ducks' Bobby Ryan scored the first goal for the United States in the second period, helping it to a 5-2 victory over Switzerland at the ice hockey world championships in Helsinki, the U.S. beach volleyball team of April Ross and Jennifer Kessy has qualified for their first Olympics, joining fellow Americans and two-time gold medalists Kerri Walsh and Misty May-Treanor in the tournament, three-time world champion Katie Taylor of Ireland qualified for the London Olympics women's boxing, five-time world and 1996 Olympic champion Donovan Bailey from Canada, has been charged with drunken driving with a blood-alcohol level of more than 80 milligrams while driving in Toronto and finally, organizers of the 2012 London Olympics say soccer star David Beckham is bringing the Olympic flame from Greece as the torch begins an 8,000-mile tour across Britain.
