As a measure to focus on player safety at all levels of the game, the National Football League, NFL Players’ Union and the NCAA will donate upwards of $1 million dollars to provide helmets to youth football programs in low-income communities.  The aforementioned groups have joined forces with the National Operating Committee on Standards for Athletic Equipment and USA Football will administer the program.  All helmets that are at least 10 years old will be replaced with new models, but most importantly, safety education will be provided to coaches as well.  The program will commence in July and they anticipate they will distribute 13k helmets this year.
