Venus Williams ousted in the
1st round at Wimbledon
Major League Baseball was back to their regular season schedule as I highlight the scores in the National League as the Pittsburgh Pirates were denominated by the Philadelphia Phillies 8-3 with Jimmy Rollins 8th homer, the Milwaukee Brewers lost to the Cincinnati Reds 3-1 as Mat Latos was striking out batters like it was a bad cold  with 13 strikeouts, the defending champion St. Louis Cardinals eked out a one run win 8-7 against the Miami Marlins as the Cardinals came back from runs back to outlast the fishermen in 10 innings, the New Mets received a drubbing at the hands of the Chicago Cubs 6-1, another 8-7 score in 10 innings, but this time it was the San Diego Padres with 8 runs and the Houston Astros with 7, while the Washington Nationals lost to the Colorado Rockies 4-2 and the LA Dodgers were SHUT OUT and literally spanked by the San Francisco Giants 8-0 as Pablo Sandoval drove in 3 RBI’s.

Wimbledon 2012 kicked off on Monday at the All England Club and there was on major upset as five time champion Venus Williams was properly dispatched by 79th ranked Elena Vesnina of Russia and the highest ranking American in John Isner was also sent home by Alejandro Falla of Columbia in five sets.

For your NFL Quick Hits,  Richard Khamir Hurd, as former Baylor basketball player, was arraigned Monday in federal court in Waco and his bond was set at $25,000 as he is facing a federal extortion charge for allegedly threatening to release "derogatory information" about Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III unless he was paid, New York Jets defensive tackle Muhammad Wilkerson, the team's first-round draft pick in 2011, was treated for "minor injuries" after he was involved in an accident on the Garden State Parkway early Saturday morning in which the car he was driving overturned after striking another vehicle, a police spokesman confirmed and he was charged with careless driving and failure to maintain his lane,  Drew Brees has teamed up with PACE (Protecting Athletes Through Concussion Education), a program that provides free concussion testing for more than 3,300 middle and high schools and youth sports organizations to help raise awareness on concussions,  the Pittsburgh Steelers have released veteran quarterback Troy Smith, a former Ohio State star who won the 2006 Heisman Trophy, and finally, the Detroit Lions have signed safety Sean Jones to a one-year deal and released safety Sam Proctor.
