2012 Olympics w/ Ryan Lochte, Missy Franklin & Matt Grevers & Olympic News w/ Hope Solo: 7/31, Vol. 197, 1st Edt'n

Can we find a friend so faithful, who will all our sorrows share? Jesus knows our every weakness…take it to the Lord in prayer!  Good morning and welcome back to Spiritual Sports Segment on Rhema Gospel Radio better than when you it yesterday, I’m C.E.E.J.A.Y!  Here We Go!

Missy Franklin celebrating her
gold medal win
The 2012 London Olympics rolled on it despite some wins, it was a Day of Disappointment as Ryan Lochte apparently was cursed since his beat Michael Phelps in the 400m Individual Medley because he gave up a big lead in the relay and yesterday came in fourth place in the 200m Freestyle….I don’t know about you, but something smells fishy about that and another huge Olympic let down was the men’s gymnastics team finishing fifth after a promising first place qualification finish.  But there was reason to celebrate as 17 year old Missy Franklin from Aurora, CO, struck gold in the Women’s 100m Backstroke and Matt Grevers set an Olympic sized record by rallying to a win to capture gold in the Men’s 100 Backstroke and fellow American Nick Thoman brings home silver, while Michael Phelps qualified to defend his title in the 200m Butterfly and Missy Franklin qualified in the 200m Freestyle.  Coming out of the pool just for a moment to a sandy surface, Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh captured their 16th consecutive Olympic victory in beach volleyball to improve 2-0 and Maggie Stephens scored 7 goals as the women’s polo team got past Hungary 14-13 and for a smaller, dryer ball, Venus and her sister Serena continue their march to gold by advancing and Andy Roddick and John Isner also advanced.  The ladies of the basketball court showed no mercy against Angola and ran all over them 90-38…..yes, you heard correctly……NINE ZERO – THREE EIGHT as Candace Parker notched her second double-double of the tournament finishing with 14 points and 12 rebounds.
For your 2012 London Olympic news, U.S. women's soccer goalkeeper Hope Solo didn't back down Monday from her Twitter outburst against NBC analyst Brandi Chastain, saying the tweets were her way of expressing her opinion about the quality of television announcers, FIFA has imposed a two-match ban on Colombia player Lady Andrade after U.S. forward Abby Wambach said she was "sucker-punched" by her opponent in an Olympic soccer match, Swiss soccer player Michel Morganella, was expelled from the Olympics on Monday for his threatening and racist message on Twitter about South Koreans after losing the match….think twice before you hit send. London Olympic organizers say former Beatle Paul McCartney and other star performers who took part in Friday's opening ceremony essentially donated their time and basically receiving a mere pound for a $1.57, for their performances, A security guard at the Olympics is under investigation for allegedly insulting a soldier as they worked together at a Games venue as the investigation continues, and finally, Australian boxer Damien Hooper, who wore a T-shirt emblazoned with an Aboriginal flag at the arena has been warned by team officials for violating a policy barring athletes from making political statements.

Kendrys Morales of the Angels
became the 3rd switch hitter in MLB
history to homer from both sides
of the plate in the same inning
Major League Baseball had six games on the diamond in the American League starting with the LA Angels literally spanking the Texas Rangers 15-8 as Kendrys Morales homered twice on both sides of the plate and one being a Grand Slam and became the 3rd switch hitter in MLB history to do so in the same inning, the Baltimore Orioles got past the New York Yankees 5-4 as Wilson Betemit homered, the Detroit Tigers were clawed up by the Boston Red Sox 7-3 as Will Middlebrooks launched a homerun, while the Chicago White Sox lost by a run 7-6 to the Minnesota Twins, the Toronto Blue Jays were beat up by the Seattle Mariners 4-1 Hisashi Iwakuma struck out a career best 13 batters and the Tampa Bay Ray and the Oakland A’s game lasted for 15 innings, so when I woke up, the A’s won 4-3 off of Jemile Weeks sacrifice fly and the A’s lead the majors with 12 walk-offs this season.

For your NBA Quick Dribbles, with a new general manager and the status of All-Star Dwight Howard still in limbo, the Orlando Magic introduced first time head coach Jacque Vaughn and when asked if he was hesitate on taking the job with uncertainty of their franchise player, Vaughn stated “Faith. Faith in your abilities. Faith in the people around you and one of the great character-building attributes of the franchises I've been around -- the foundation and the basis -- is having good people around you. The DeVos family is about that. Alex Martins is about that. And I know Rob Hennigan is about that” and finally, eight of nine Seattle City Council members have sent a letter to the investor seeking public help to build a new sports arena in the city, saying changes must be made to a proposal before they can support it.
For your NFL Quick Hits, Tampa police found reserve receive O. J. Murdock of the Tennessee Titans in his car from an apparent gunshot wound, in which he later passed at a local hospital….may God rest his soul in peace and bring comfort to his family, along with Brodey Poole and Andre Holmes, running back Felix Jones was one of three Dallas Cowboys who has not been cleared to practice after failing the team's conditioning test at the beginning of training camp, New York Giants cornerback Terrell Thomas experienced swelling in his knee on Monday morning and was sent to New York City to have his right knee examined, Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kevin Kolb bruised his right thigh late in Monday's practice and left the field for treatment, Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson has returned to the team's training camp residence hall after an allergic reaction to seafood at lunch that sent him to a local hospital, but was fine after treatment, and finally, the NFL has confirmed Shannon Eastin, a woman will be among the group of referees used as replacements during the current lockout of NFL officials.

2012 Olympics w/ Michael Phelps, Ryan Lochte & Jordyn Wieber & AL-MLB Scores: 7/30, Vol. 196, 1st Edt'n

Have we trials and temptations? Is there trouble anywhere? We should never be discouraged…..take it to the Lord in prayer!  Good morning and welcome back to Spiritual Sports Segment on Rhema Gospel Radio better than when you it last week, I’m C.E.E.J.A.Y!  Here We Go!

Ryan Lochte winning gold after
beating Michael Phelps in the
400m IM
The 2012 London Olympics kicked off over the weekend with an outstanding opening ceremony that featured the queen jumping out of a helicopter, in her pink dress, if I may add…and if you believe that go right ahead nonetheless comma as I start with one biggest upsets to start the games as Michael Phelps failed to medal in the 400m Individual Medley as Ryan Lochte captured gold, the men’s swimming team came up short of the gold as Lochte was chased down in the Men’s 4x100m Freestyle Relay and France captured gold, Allison Schmitt won silver in the Women’s 400m Freestyle, while the ladies captured bronze in the Women’s 4x100 Freestyle Relay, Peter Vanderkaay won bronze in the Men’s 400m Freestyle and in the Men’s 100m Breaststroke, Brendan Hansen won bronze.  Dana Vollmer won the Women’s 100 Butterfly in style by capturing the Olympic and World Records and Elizabeth Beisel took home silver in the Woman’s 400m Individual Medley.
The biggest disappointment in gymnastics for the ladies was Jordyn Wieber not qualifying for the all-around events as they wrapped up the qualifying rounds.
Kelci Bryan and Abby Johnston are coming with silver in the Women’s 3m Springboard Synchro and in archery; the men’s team won the first medal for the United States with silver.
So with the some of the early games having medal implications, China is currently leading the medal race with 6 gold, 4 silver and 2 bronze for a total of 12 and the United States is not that far behind with 3 gold, 5 silver and 3 bronze for a total of 11 and Italy has a total of 7.
The men’s team in basketball opened up competition against Tony Parker and his French team but Team USA had too much fire power and too many 3’s as Kevin Durant poured in 22 points, LeBron James added 8 dimes and their smothering defense did the French in 98-71 to breeze through the opening game.  And the ladies for basketball, they got off to slow start against Croatia but put the pedal to medal in the 4th and molliwoped Croatia 81-56 as Tina Charles and Candace Parker each put up a double-double with 14 points and 10 boards and 11 points and 13 boards respectively.
The American League in Major League Baseball was swinging their bats yesterday with seven games on tap as the Tampa Bay Rays SHUT OUT the LA Angels 2-0 as Zack Greinke got the lost in his Angels debut, the Kansas City Royals lost by a run to the Seattle Mariners 7-6 as the Mariners earned the sweep, the Chicago White Sox were SHUT OUT by the Texas Rangers 2-0, the Boston Red Sox needed 10 innings to get past the New York Yankees 3-2, while the Detroit Tigers walloped the Toronto Blue Jays 4-1 as Jhonny Peralta launches 2 homeruns, the Oakland A’s were crushed by the Baltimore Orioles 6-1 with 12 strikeouts from rookie Wei-Yin Chen and the Cleveland Indians was seeing double as they were pasted by the Minnesota Twins 5-1 as Justin Morneau went yard.
For your London Summer Olympic News, North Korea's Om Yun Chol, all of 5 feet and 123 pounds, won a gold medal by confidently lifting an Olympic-record 370 pounds in the clean and jerk Sunday at the London Games, basically lifting three times his body weight, troops, teachers and students are getting free tickets to fill prime seats that were empty at some Olympic venues on the first full day of competition, the International Olympic Committee said Luiza Galiulina,  a lesser-known name with no medal hopes, tested positive for the banned diuretic furosemide in a pre-Games urine control, and finally, the perfectly kept secret about who would light the Olympic cauldron caught even Britain's savvy bookmakers by surprise as a leading odds maker is refunding all wagers because it was too tough for gamblers to guess the identity of the seven young athletes who had the honor Friday night.

A. Dickey won his 14th game with 8 strikeouts, the Miami Marlins needed 10 innings to get past the San Diego Padres 5-4, while the Chicago Cubs also needed 10 innings to outlast the defending champion St. Louis Cardinals 4-2 with Anthony Rizzo’s 2 run homer in the 10th to seal the deal, the Philadelphia Phillies were pounded by the Atlanta Braves 6-2 as Jason Heyward hit his 16th homer, the Cincinnati Reds powered past the Colorado Rockies 7-2 to win their 10th in a row behind Jay Bruce’s 20th homer of the season and the Houston Astros FINALLY get off the 12 game slide with a win against the Pittsburgh Pirates 9-5 with a homer from Jordan Schafer.
NASCAR witnessed a historic day on Sunday at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway as Jimmie Johnson captured his 4th Brickyard 400 tying Jeff Gordon as the only drivers to do so and he did in grand fashion with a dominate win and Kyle Busch finished 2nd , Greg Biffle 3rd and with his 4th place finish, Dale Earnhardt, Jr sits atop of the Sprint Cup points with 731, trailed by Matt Kenseth.
The PGA took is putter north of the boarder at the RBC Canadian Open at Hamilton Golf and Country Club in Ancaster, Canada with a $5.2 million purse as Scott Pierce drained 4 straight birdies and a big time par in the final hole for his 2nd career win with a 17 under par, one shot better than Robert Garrigus, who tied William McGirt for 2nd and trio of players tied for 3rd.
And we can’t forget about the ladies on LPGA tour as they wrapped up their Evian Masters in France as Inbee Parker won her 2nd tour as she also finished with a 17 under par 2 shots ahead of Karrie Webb and Stacy Lewis.
After moving up two weight classes, Robert Guerrero outpointed Selcuk Aydin in a unanimous decision to claim the WBC interim welterweight title in, but Floyd Mayweather, Jr owns the full WBC welterweight title and Guerrero becomes the mandatory challenger.

NBA 2012-13 Schedule, NBA Quick Dribbles w/ Delonte West & AL-MLB Scores: 7/27, Vol. 195, 1st Edt'n

Oh, what peace we often forfeit, oh, what needless pain we bear all because we do not carry everything to God in prayer!  Good morning and welcome back to Spiritual Sports Segment on Rhema Gospel Radio better than when you it last week, I’m C.E.E.J.A.Y!  Let’s Get It Stared!

2012-13 NBA schedule released
The American League in Major League Baseball had a very light schedule last night with only four games on the diamond along with early afternoon games as the Tampa Bay Rays were stung by the Baltimore Orioles 6-2 as Chris Davis knocked in his 16th homer, the Oakland A’s was in play after they smacked the Toronto Blue Jays upside the head in a 16-0 drubbing Wednesday night, but last night the table were turned as the Blue Jays lambasted the A’s 10-4 as Edwin Encarnacion launched his 27th homerun, the Detroit Tigers lost to the Cleveland Indians 5-3 as the Indians rallied to get the win as Travis Hafner belted a homer and the Kansas City Royals were pummeled by the Seattle Mariners 4-1 as Jason Vargas won his 11th game of the season.
In sporting news, the National Basketball Association released the 2012-2013 season schedule and some of the highlights on opening night include the reigning NBA champions Miami Heat hoisting their 2nd NBA title banner and receiving their bling-bling on October 30 against the storied franchise Boston Celtics, my LA Lakers and Kobe Bryant will begin his pursuit of a 6th NBA ring with Steve Nash running point as they host the Dallas Mavericks.  Some other notable games include the battle of New York as the Brooklyn Nets will open their potentially rivalry against the New York Knicks on November 1 and the team that lost to the Heat in title game, the Oklahoma City Thunder will face off against the team they knocked out of the championship run in the San Antonio Spurs on the same night.  Most people say the NBA season doesn’t officially start until Christmas Day as five total games will be spread across the country as Boston battles Brooklyn….alliteration, I love it nonetheless comma I digress, the Knicks will tackle the Lakers, a rematch of the NBA Finals as the Thunder try to cool off the Heat, Jeremy Lin and the Houston Rockets will pay a visit to Derrick Rose and the Chicago Bulls and the last game on Jesus’ birthday will feature the Denver Nuggets against not your daddy’s LA Clippers.
For your NBA Quick Dribbles, the Phoenix Suns say Brad Casper has resigned as president of the NBA team to focus on outside business ventures and chief operating officer Jason Rowley will assume responsibility for the club's business operations as president and Lon Babby will continue serving as president of basketball operations, not quite the multi-year deal he was seeking, but Delonte West officially re-signed with the Dallas Mavericks and the deal is believed to be for one year and slightly more than the $1.1 million veteran's minimum, and finally, the Los Angeles Clippers have signed forward NBA champion Ronny Turiaf to a one-year contract worth the veteran's minimum of $1.1 million, a league source confirmed to ESPN The Magazine's Chris Broussard.

For your NFL Quick Hits,  after Jonathan Vilma and seven witnesses testified Thursday that NFL commissioner Roger Goodell got his facts wrong in the bounty scandal, a federal judge decided against making an immediate ruling on whether the suspended Saints' linebacker temporarily could return to work, unhappy with his contract, which has two years and roughly $9 million dollars left, Jacksonville Jaguars star running back Maurice Jones-Drew did not report Thursday to the start of Jacksonville's training camp, Ndamukong Suh is being sued for just more than $1 million by a woman who claims she was injured in a December car crash in Oregon involving the Detroit Lions' star, Carolina Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith said Thursday he will donate $100,000 to the victims in last week's mass shooting at a theater in Aurora, CO,  the Seattle Seahawks added depth to its unproven wide receiver unit by signing veteran Antonio Bryant, the Chicago Bears have acquired defensive tackle Brian Price from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for a 2013 seventh-round draft pick, San Francisco 49ers safety Dashon Goldson signed his one-year, $6.2 million dollar franchise tender on Thursday and reported to training camp on time, and finally, in Feel Good Sports Story, less than seven months after suffering life-threatening burns over almost half of his body in a house fire, Pittsburgh Steelers running backs coach was back on field coaching his players.  Amen to that!

USA Women's Soccer, PSU Players Unite, NBA News w/ Andrei Kirilenko & AL-MLB Scores: 7/26, Vol. 194, 1st Edt'n

What a friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and grief’s to bear….and what a privilege to carry, everything to God in prayer!  Good morning and welcome back to Spiritual Sports Segment on Rhema Gospel Radio better than when you it yesterday, I’m C.E.E.J.A.Y!  Here We Go!

Penn State football players stand
united and staying put
Major League Baseball had a plethora of games on the diamond as the American League had several afternoon games of its seven game lineup starting with the Minnesota Twins getting annihilated by the Chicago White Sox 8-2 as Alex Rios and Dayan Viciedo each belted their 16th homers, the Kansas City Royals were manhandled by the LA Angels 11-6 as with 3 homers from 3 different Angels, the New York Yankees knocked off the Seattle Mariners 5-2 as Jayson Nix’s 3 run double sealed the deal, the Tampa Bay Rays muscled past the Baltimore Orioles 10-1 as Ryan Roberts belted his 1st homer and David Price notched his 14th MLB leading win, while the Detroit Tigers defeated the Cleveland Indians 5-3 despite 2 homers from the Indians, the Boston Red Sox couldn’t handle the Texas Rangers and lost 5-3 as Nelson Cruz launched a homer and the Oakland A’s hold up, hold up….this possibly can’t be right….just bear with me while I double check this....wow, okay the Oakland A’s literally spanked, SHUT OUT and plain ole embarrassed the Toronto Blue Jay 16-0…ouch, as Coco Crisp went yard twice.
USA Women’s Soccer got an early start to the London Games as they battled France and after 14 minutes, France lead the ladies of the U.S. 2 – 0, but of course, our ladies are resilient and didn’t back down from challenge as they stormed back behind Alex Morgan and Abby Wambach to notch the win 4-2.
In sporting news, as Penn State continues to settle into their penalties, President Rod Erickson admitted things could have been much, much worse if they did not accept the current penalties, the university would have faced a four year death penalty, which would have shut down the football for four years.  While the penalties are harsh indeed and especially hitting the players hard as they will not be able to participate in a bowl game for four years, but given the option to transfer without recourse, the players basically stood united and re-affirmed their commitment to the Nitany Lion family and stated in part “this team has taken on more adversity than any team has faced in history, which is a testament to our commitment to our team's character, our fans, and our university. One man didn't build this program, and one man sure as hell cannot tear it down. This program was built on the backs of the thousands of great men who put on the Penn State uniform. Today it is no different. WE ARE”  In addition, during Bill O’Brien’s interviews on ESPN yesterday, he mentioned his contract included a clause that if the university was punished, an extension would automatically kick in and that’s exactly what happened as O’Brien’s contract was extended by four years through 2020, ensuring that if the team is not winning, he will still have a high paying job.
For your NBA Quick Dribbles, the Minnesota Timberwolves are finalizing a two-year, $20 million deal with former Utah Jazz forward Andrei Kirilenko, according to a Yahoo! Sports report, the New Orleans Hornets, Phoenix Suns and Minnesota Timberwolves have agreed to a multiplayer trade sending 7-foot center Robin Lopez and forward Hakim Warrick from Phoenix to New Orleans, while moving forward Wesley Johnson and a first-round draft pick from Minnesota to Phoenix, in addition, the deal also sends guard Jerome Dyson and retiring center Brad Miller's $5.1 million contract from New Orleans to Minnesota, allowing the Timberwolves to clear space under the NBA's salary cap as they pursue free agents; the deal has not been announced pending the completion of some routine logistical matters. Veteran NBA forward Antwan Jamison was officially introduced yesterday as a LA Laker, and finally, the Cleveland Cavaliers acquired point guard Jeremy Pargo, a second-round draft pick in 2014, and cash considerations from the Grizzlies in exchange for guard-forward D.J. Kennedy on Wednesday.
