Euro 2012, Tiger Woods Wins Again, MLB, WNBA, NASCAR, X Games Results & NBA News: 7/2, Vol. 176, 1st Edition

Euro 2012 came down to two power house teams as Spain, who ended a 44 year absence of major titles by beating Germany in Euro 2008, was looking to become the first team to win back-to-back Euro championships, faced off against Italy as Italy simply was overwhelmed by Spain’s dominance and as Spain demolished and SHUT OUT Italy to take Euro 2012 and only gave up one goal during the entire tournament.

The AT&T National wrapped up an exciting tournament at Congressional Country Club with a purse of $6.5 million dollars witnessed Tiger Woods, who was tied for 30th after the first round, make his charge up the leaders board go down the stretch against Bo Van Pelt, but as Tiger excelled, Van Pelt faltered and Tiger became the first golfer to win three tournaments this year, moved past Jack Nicklaus in second place for most wins, took up residence at the top of the money list and FedEx Cup points standings while Van Pelt finished 2nd, Adam Scott 3rd and a host tied for 4th .

Major League Baseball had full schedule on the diamond yesterday starting with the American League as the Oakland A’s edged out the Texas Rangers 3-1 despite Yu Darvish striking out 11, the Cleveland Indians blasted the Baltimore Orioles 6-2 as Aaron Cunningham belted his 1st homer, the Detroit Tigers got past the Tampa Bay Rays 5-3 with the help of Prince Fielder’s RBI in the 6th, the Chicago White Sox was defeated by the New York Yankees 4-2 as Robinson Cano belted his 20th homer, while the Minnesota Twins muscled past the Kansas City Royals 10-8 as Trevor Plouffe knocked in 2 homers, the LA Angels also put up 10 runs to get the win over the 6 runs the Toronto Blue Jays put up with Mark Truumbo’s 20th homer and the Boston Red Sox eked out a one run win 2-1 against the Seattle Mariners as Dustin Pedroia homered.

The Ladies of the B-Ball Court tipped off four games yesterday as the Atlanta Dream lost a close one to the Chicago Sky 71-69 with a double-double from Sylvia Fowles with 21 points and 12 boards, the Minnesota Lynx was pasted by the surging San Antonio Silver Stars 93-84 with 23 points from Becky Hammon to hand the Lynx their 2nd loss of the season, while the Washington Mystics dominated the Phoenix Mercury 90-77 as Crystal Langhorne poured in 22 points and in overtime, the Seattle Storm defeated the Connecticut Sun 89-83 as Camille Little was on fire with 27 points.

Round and round they went at Kentucky Motor Speedway as a wrecked car couldn’t prevent Brad Keselowski capturing the checkered flag in a back-up car for his 3rd win of the season and Kasey Khane finished 2nd, Denny Hamlin rolled into 3rd place, while Dale Earnhardt, Jr. came in 4th and Jeff Gordon round out the top five.

The 2012 X Games motored on yesterday as Paul Rodriguez won the Men’s Skateboard Street with a best score of 86, the Men’s Rallycross LCQ was won by Sabastien Loeb with winning time of 272.58, which knocked out Travis Pastrana, the BMX Big Air was won by Steve McCann with a score of 92.33,  the Women’s Moto X Enduro X was won by Maria Forsberg with a time of 416.51 and the Men’s Moto X Enduro X was won by Mike Brown with a time of 506.25.

For NBA Quick Dribbles, the Toronto Raptors have offered free agent point guard Steve Nash a three-year, $36 million contract, according to sources, the Portland Trail Blazers have offered restricted free agent center Roy Hibbert a four-year, $58 million contract, sources confirmed to ESPN The Magazine's Chris Broussard, the Brooklyn Nets reached a verbal commitment with swingman Gerald Wallace on a four-year deal worth $40 million, according to sources, Los Angeles Clippers forward Blake Griffin has let team officials know that he intends to sign a five-year contract extension this month worth up to $95 million dollars, the Houston Rockets have reached a verbal agreement with Chicago Bulls restricted free agent Omer Asik on a three-year deal worth $25.1 million, coach Scott Brooks and  the Oklahoma City Thunder have agreed to a four year deal around $18 million dollars, Kevin Garnett has agreed to a three year deal worth $34 million dollars, the Mavs have exercised their option on Vince Carter's full $3.1 million salary, after acquiring the former All-Star, the New Orleans Hornets have waived Rashard Lewis and finally, Lamar Odom is heading back to LA, but this time to the Clippers.
