The National League in Major League Baseball had eight games under the lights as the Milwaukee Brewers lost by a run against the Philadelphia Phillies 7-6 as the Phillies withstood 4 homers from the Brewers, the Chicago Cubs blasted the Pittsburgh Pirates 5-1 with the 19th homer from Alfonso Soriano, the Washington Nationals knocked off the New York Mets 5-2 as Adam LaRoche went yard for the 17th time, the Atlanta Braves eked out a one run win against the Miami Marlins 4-3 as Jason Heyward drove in 2 RBI’s, the Cincinnati Reds defeated the Houston Astros 4-2 as Drew Stubbs launched a homerun, while the LA Dodgers were demolished by the defending champion St. Louis Cardinals 8-2 as Rafael Furcal drove in 3 RBI’s, the Colorado Rockies were pummeled by the Arizona Diamondbacks 6-2 as Chris Young launched a homer and the San Diego Padres lost by run to the San Francisco Giants 3-2 as Madison Bumgarner struck out 9 batters.
For your London Summer Olympic News, Serena Williams says she feels "really good" and is ready to go for another title at Wimbledon, Brazil's starting goalkeeper Rafael has been ruled out of the men's Olympic squad after injuring his right elbow in a practice session just two days before the team's opening match, world vault champion McKayla Maroney's sore right foot is getting a break and Sam Mikulak's balky left ankle is getting a workout, but both plan to be ready when the Olympics begin Friday, and finally, World Anti-Doping Agency President John Fahey on Tuesday announced the results of a program designed to test athletes under suspicion before they arrived in London and more than 100 athletes have been kept out of the London Olympics because of doping suspensions.
For your NFL Quick Hits, Jacksonville Jaguars first-round draft pick Justin Blackmon pleaded guilty Tuesday to drunken driving in Oklahoma last month and was given a sentence that includes no jail time for the former Oklahoma State star, Atlanta Falcons coach Mike Smith says linebacker Lofa Tatupu will miss the upcoming season because of a pectoral injury that requires season ending surgery, the Pittsburgh Steelers announced they have extended coach Mike Tomlin's contract through the 2016 season, five-time Pro Bowl safety Adrian Wilson has agreed to restructure his contract and will take a pay cut unless he meets incentives established in the new four-year deal, the New England Patriots and tight end Visanthe Shiancoe agreed to terms on a one-year contract, ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter confirmed via a league source, the Indianapolis Colts with honor record breaking franchise running back  Edgerrin James to the teams Ring of Honor, rookie first round quarterback Brandon Weeden and the Cleveland Browns agreed to a four-year, $8.1 million contract on Tuesday and only three years of Weeden's deal are guaranteed, and finally, in a sign of solidarity, Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant was joined by his mother, Angela Bryant, at a brief news conference on Tuesday to stress that while there may have been an incident last week, no family violence occurred.  Drama, drama, drama.
