UFC in China, Maria de Villota, Minnesota Wild, NHL & Carlos Lee News: 7/5, Vol. 179, 3rd Edition

UFC going Far East!
UFC is going to the Far East! The UFC has held their MMA matches all across this vast globe we call earth and they are finally traveling to China for the first time.  UFC announced yesterday that Fight Night will be held on November 10 In Macau, a special administration region of China, which is located about 37 miles west of Hong Kong.  The arena has a 15, 000 seating capacity and will be hosted by the Venetian Macao-Resort Hotel at their CoteiArena.  UFC chairman and CEO Lorenzo Fertitta stated "breaking into a market with a population of over 1.3 billion is both a testament to the growth of our sport and a long-term challenge we are excited to undertake and this is just the first of many world-class fights we plan to hold over the coming years in China, one of the birthplaces of martial arts”.  At the time of the announcement, UFC did not have fighters lined up for the historic event.

Smith, says he is making plans to declare bankruptcy as a result of several land developments gone bust in Kentucky and athletic director Jeff Long was aware of Smith’s financial woes, the Minnesota Wild yesterday landed not one but both of the NHL's top players available in free agency: forward Zach Parise and defenseman Ryan Suter, Matt Carle agreed to terms on a six-year contract with the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday night and the deal is worth $5.5 million dollars annually, veteran center Steve Sullivan signed a one-year contract with the Phoenix Coyotes on Wednesday and ESPN.com's Pierre LeBrun reports the deal is worth $1.85 million plus bonuses, negotiations between the NHL and NHL Players' Association on a new collective bargaining agreement resumed in New York, the Winnipeg Jets and first-round pick Al Montoya agreed to a one year deal worth $601,000, Yu Darvish will not make his final scheduled start of the first half as the Texas Rangers attempt to get him some extra rest in his first season in the majors, Los Angeles Dodgers right fielder Andre Ethier was placed on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday with a strained left oblique and it is retroactive to June 28, and finally, the Miami Marlins acquired Carlos Lee from the Houston Astros in a trade on Wednesday, sending a pair of minor leaguers to Houston, well it appears Lee received his independence from a losing as he goes to a winning team…..huh?!
