Roger Federer wins his
7th Wimbledon title
Serena Williams win her
5th Wimbledon title
Ohhhhh what a weekend in the world of sports as I kick off this sports segment with the 126th 2012 Wimbledon as Serena Williams battled Agnieszka Radwanska on Centre Court and Serena was simply marvelous from alpha to omega and dispatched Radwaska in three sets 61-, 5-7, 6-2 to capture her 5th Wimbledon title and if that wasn’t enough, she joined forces with her sister Venus and added more hardware to their collection as they won also their 5th Wimbledon doubles title.  And for the men, Brit Andy Murray became first British tennis player in 74 years to reach the finals and 76 years to win it but the drought continued as Roger Federer outlasted Murray in four sets 4-6, 7-5, 6-3, 6-4 to win his 7th Wimbledon title which ties him with the great Pete Sampras.
Anderson Silva defeats Chael Sonnen
in UFC 148
Back in his hay day Muhammad Ali talked plenty of game and backed it up in ring and MMA fighter Chael Sonnen talked plenty of smack leading up to his fight with defending champion Anderson Silva in UFC 148 and Sonnen started the 1st round backing up his smacked with a series of punches and elbows however comma the 2nd round was totally opposite as Sonnen threw a hard left but Silva ducked out of the way which sent Sonnen to the mat and Sonnen started backing up a and Silva threw a body punch and moments later, Silva was declared winner with a TKO as he defended his title for a UFC record 10th time in front of a sellout crowd of 15,016 with $7 million dollars generated at the gate, which is the largest in UFC history.
Major League Baseball had a plethora of games as they brought their 1st half of the season to a close before the All-Star break and the Tampa Bay Rays eked out a one run win against the Cleveland Indians 7-6 as the Rays rallied in the 9th off of Ben Zobrist’s RBI, the Kansas City Royals were blasted by the Detroit Tigers 7-1as Prince Fielder belted his 15th homer, the Toronto Blue Jays got past the Chicago White 11-9 as the Blue Jays launched four homeruns, the Baltimore Orioles were SHUT OUT and crushed by the LA Angels, while the Seattle Mariners lost by a run to the Oakland A’s in 13 innings, the Minnesota Twins lost to the Texas Rangers by a run 4-3 also in 13 innings and the New York Yankees pummeled the Boston Red Sox 7-3 as Andruw Jones went yard.
The ladies in the WNBA were balling yesterday as the Washington Mystics were hammered by the Tulsa Shock 78-62 with a 18 points from Ivory Latta, the San Antonio Silver Stars walloped the New York Liberty 94-81 for their 7th consecutive win as Jia Perkins scored a season high of 24 points, the Atlanta Dream was given a nightmare by the LA Sparks 79-63 as Kristi Toliver notched 19 points and the Seattle Storm literally spanked the Phoenix Mercury 83-68 as Sue Bird was on fire with 31 points.
For your NBA Quick Dribbles, sources with knowledge of the talks told ESPN.com on Sunday that the New Orleans Hornets and Orlando Magic reached agreement on a sign-and-trade deal that will send Orlando Magic forward Ryan Anderson to New Orleans and the Magic will receive young Hornets center Gustavo Ayon in the deal, free-agent point guard Kirk Hinrich has verbally agreed to a two-year contract with the Chicago Bulls worth around $3 million dollars per year, and finally, Larry Miller has resigned as president of the Portland Trail Blazers after five years at the helm.
