College Football, NL MLB, US Open Scores/Results, George Huguely & NFL Rule Changes: 8/31, Vol. 219, 2nd Edition

And here I am to worship, Here I am to bow down, Here I am to say that you're my God, You're altogether lovely, Altogether worthy, Altogether wonderful to me!  Welcome back to your Spiritual Sports Segment on Rhema Gospel, I’m C.E.E.J.A.Y.!

George Huguely
finally sentenced
The first segment of your Spiritual Sports was soooo exciting and jammed packed with college football scores that it spilled into the 2nd segment as Minnesota needed not one, not two but three overtimes to get past UNLV 30-27…wow, what a way to kick off the season…..New Mexico State literally spanked Sacramento State 49-19, Utah State manhandled Southern Utah 34-3, Eastern Washington molliwoped Idaho 20-3, while BYU routed Washington State 30-6 giving coach Mike Leach his 1st suffocating lost in his return to coaching and Arizona State should be fined for totally embarrassing Northern Arizona 63-6.
The National League in Major League Baseball had five games on the diamond with a couple of afternoon games as the New York Mets lost 3-2 to the Philadelphia Phillies as the big story in this game was Jimmy Rollins getting benched after a pair of base running blunders, in a slug fest, the Milwaukee Brewers scored 11 runs, but surprisingly the Chicago Cubs did them one better with 12 runs, while the defending champs St. Louis Cardinals were hammered by the Washington Nationals 8-1 as Bryce Harper launches his 15th homer, the San Francisco Giants blasted the Houston Astros 8-4 as Hunter Pence single helped the Giants rally and the Arizona Diamondbacks SHUT OUT the LA Dodgers as Chris Young went yard.
The men at the 2012 US Open were trying to advance to the 3rd round as Mardy Fish, Tomas Berdych, Marin Cilic, Jeremy Chardy, James Blake and Roger Federer were your notable winners to do just that…advance.
In a late developing story last night, George Huguely, a former University of Virginia lacrosse player has been sentenced to 23 years in prison for the alcohol-fueled beating death of his ex-girlfriend, Yeardley Love.
For you NFL Quick Hits, Philadelphia Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie didn't mince words when discussing the future of Andy Reid with the team on Thursday, saying the coach must do better in order to keep his job past this year, the Minnesota Vikings open the regular season against the Jacksonville Jaguars on September 9, and whether star running back Adrian Peterson plays may not be determined until just before kickoff as it is a 50-50 chance as of now, the NFL has suspended Tennessee Titans wide receiver Kenny Britt one game after a driving under the influence arrest, his eighth run-in with police since he was drafted in 2009, Buffalo Bills owner Ralph Wilson was listed in good condition on Thursday after being taken to a hospital, a three-member panel has finished hearing an NFL Players' Association appeal challenging commissioner Roger Goodell's authority over four players punished in the league's bounty investigation of the New Orleans Saints and they will try to issue an opinion next week, and finally, the players' union has approved a rule change that will allow one designated player to return from injured reserve and play this season and they also agreed to move the league's trading deadline back two weeks to after games in Week 8.
