College Football Kickoff Feat. Andre Parker, AL MLB, WNBA & US Open Scores/Results & Quick News: 8/31, Vol. 219, 1st Edition

Letting go of all of the ones who hurt me, cause they never did deserve me…can you imagine me?  Saying no to thoughts that try to control me, remembering all you told me….Lord, can you imagine me? Over what my mama said and healed from what my daddy did and I wanna live and not read that page again. Lord can you imagine me?  Good morning and welcome back to your Spiritual Sports Segment on Rhema on Gospel Radio better than when you it yesterday! I’m C.E.E.J.A.Y!  Here We Go!

College Football kicked off their
2012-13 season!
Their baaaaaaaack!  The 2012-13 College Football season kicked off last night with a SEC Showdown as the 9th ranked South Carolina Gamecocks was pitted against the Commodores of Vanderbilt as South Carolina needed all of Marcus Lattimore’s 110 rushing yards to get past Vanderbilt 17-13 and for some unranked scores, UCF tormented Akron 56-14, Ball State  got past Eastern Michigan 37-26, Central Michigan outlasted SE Missouri State 38-27, Kent State clobbered Towson 41-21 despite Andre Parker picking up a muffed punt and running 58 yards the wrong way…..embarrassing, meanwhile, Utah SHUT OUT and literally spanked Northern Colorado 41-0, Connecticut also had a SHUT OUT against Massachusetts 37-0, UCLA pummeled Rice 49-24 and FCS McNeese State UPSET FBS Middle Tennessee State 27-21, but congratulations to my cousin Darius “Big Diesel” Johnson in starting in his 1st game.
Major League Baseball had a slightly lighter schedule with several afternoon games as the Oakland A’s stomped all over the Cleveland Indians 12-7 as the A’s used 4 homeruns, the Chicago White Sox lost to the Baltimore Orioles 5-3 as Zach Britton struck out a career high 10 batters, the Seattle Mariners got past the Minnesota Twins by a run 5-4, while the Tampa Bay Rays were SHUT OUT by the Toronto Blue Jays 2-0, the Detroit Tigers lost by one measly run 2-1 against the Kansas City Royals 2-1 with a homer from Alex Gordon and the Boston Red Sox was defeated by the LA Angels 5-2 as Angels notched the season sweep.
The Queens of the Basketball Court were getting their dribbles on last night with five games on tap as the Indiana Fever cruised to a win over the New York Liberty 76-63 with a game high of 22 points from Tamika Catchings, the Washington Mystics were annihilated by the Atlanta Dream 82-59 with a double-double from Erika DeSouza’s 21 points and 10 boards, the LA Sparks were shocked by the Tulsha Shock 99-85 as Ivory Latta was ballin’ with 21 points and a career best 14 rebounds, while the Connecticut Sun got the win over the San Antonio Silver Stars 84-73 with 20 points and 10 rebounds from Tina Charles and the Phoenix Mercury powered past the Seattle Storm 75-68 as DeWanna Bonner put up a double-double with 24 points and 11 boards.
The 2012 US Open kept churning through the 2nd round yesterday as Serena Williams moves on but her big sister Venus was ousted by Angeliqu Kerber in 3 sets, while Roberta Vinci, Ekaterina Makarova, Agnieszka Radwanska, Sara Errani, Sloane Stephens, and Maria Kirilenko were your notable winners to advance.
For your 1st Segment Quick News & Notes, the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday announced that on April 2 during halftime of the Lakers' game against the Dallas Mavericks, Shaquille O'Neal will get his #34 retired and Jamal Wilkes will have his #52 retired on December 28, the Edmonton Oilers signed forward Jordan Eberle to a six-year, $36 million contract extension on Thursday,  Los Angeles Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen is out indefinitely with a heart condition,  Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Chad Billingsley received an injection of platelet-rich plasma in his right elbow Thursday, a therapy that could be Billingsley's last hope of pitching again in 2012.
