NFL w/ Cleveland Browns, AL-NL MLB & PGA Scores & NBA Quick Dribbles: 8/3, Vol. 200, 2nd Edition

Major League Baseball had lighter schedule last night with only nine games on the diamond starting with the American League as the Minnesota Twins SHUT OUT and annihilated the Boston Red Sox 5-0 as the rookie Samuel Deduno shut down the Red Sox and Brian Dozier went yard, the LA Angels were manhandled by the Texas Rangers 15-9 as Nelson Cruz homered, while the Cleveland Indians lost by a measly run to the Kansas City Royals 7-6 as the Royals lost a 6-0 lead and had to rally back to close the game out in 11 innings with Alcides Escobar’s RBI single and the Toronto Blue Jays had their feathers clipped by the Oakland A’s 4-1 as Josh Reddick launches his 23rd homer of the season.
For your National League scores, the San Diego Padres was blasted by the Cincinnati Reds 9-4 as Johnny Cuerto wins his 14th game, the New York Mets outmuscled the San Francisco Giants 9-1 as Ronny Cedeno drives in 5 RBI’s, the Philadelphia Phillies were SHUT OUT by the Washington Nationals 3-0 as Adam LaRoche knocked in his 20th homerun, while the Miami Marlins was demolished by the Atlanta Braves 6-1 as Chipper Jones and Freddie Freeman each drove in 2 RBI’s and the defending champion St. Louis Cardinals were hammered by the Colorado Rockies 8-2 with Willin Rosario’s 17th homer.
The PGA Tour was back on US soil after a trip visiting with our Canadian friends last week to kick off the World Golf Championship-Bridgestone Invitational and Jim Furyk is your 1st round leader with a 7 under par, Lee Slattery is two shots back with a 5 under par while reigning Masters champ Bubba Watson, Luke Donald, Ben Crane and host of other golfers are tied for 3rd with a 4 under par and Tiger Woods is off to rough start and went even and tied for 31st.
For your NBA Quick Dribbles, 2010 NBA Development League Defensive Player of the Year Greg Stiemsma averaged 9.1 points, 7.3 rebounds and a league-leading 3.7 blocks per game for the Sioux Falls Sky Force, was signed with the Minnesota Timberwolves and free agent guard Chris Smith has signed with the New York Knicks, uniting him with older brother J.R. Smith and the deal is most likely a non-guaranteed contract.
For your NFL Quick Hits, in news that caught most people off guard, the Cleveland Browns was sold for $1 billion dollars to Jimmy Haslam, III, who is the CEO of Pilot Flying-J Travel Centers, which gas service stations catering to truck drivers, Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt suffered a dislocated elbow in practice Thursday morning, but fortunately tests came back negative, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, troubled by the large number of player arrests this year, recently met with NFL Players Association executive director DeMaurice Smith to try to come up with a solution, the NFL has not found evidence that bounty programs existed for the Washington Redskins or the Buffalo Bills when Gregg Williams was on either staff, Carolina Panthers general manager Marty Hurney announced the team had terminated the contract of the offensive tackle Jeff Otah, a former first-round draft pick, after he failed a physical, and finally, the Philadelphia Eagles have traded linebackers Moise Fokou and Greg Lloyd to the Indianapolis Colts for cornerback Kevin Thomas and a conditional seven-round pick in the 2013 draft.
