The National League in Major League Baseball were swinging their bats as the LA Dodgers were crushed by the Pittsburgh Pirates 10-6 with Garrett Jones going yard twice, but he game was filled with ugliness as Matt Kemp was ejected and Don Mattingly stated it was just unacceptable, the New York Mets clobbered the Cincinnati Reds 8-4 as Matt Harvey only allowed one but also scored 2 RBI’s, the San Diego Padres were SHUT OUT and smothered by the Atlanta Braves 6-0 as Chipper Jones continued his farewell tour with 2 homeruns and 3 RBI’s, the Philadelphia Phillies were walloped by the Milwaukee Brewers 7-4 as Corey Hart delivered a Grand Slam, while the Arizona Diamondbacks got past the defending champion St. Louis Cardinals 2-1 with back-to-back homers in the 9th inning and the Miami Marlins lost to the Colorado Rockies 5-3 with a homer from Michael Cuddyer.
The Western and Southern Open in tennis rolled on Cincinnati as Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, Marin Cilic, Stanilas Wawrinka, Milos Raonic, Jeremy Chardy, who knock out Andy Murray, Mardy Fish and Juan Martin del Porto all advance out of the third round.  And in the Western and Southern Financial Group for the women, Serena Williams, Petra Kvitova, Samantha Stosur, Serena’s sister Venus, Angelique Kerber and Agnieska Radwanska advance to the next round.
Major League Soccer had two games on tap last night as the Columbus Crew and LA Galaxy played to a 1-1 tie and Toronto FC and the Portland Timbers also played to a tie 2-2.
For your NFL Quick Hits, the NFL on Thursday provided a federal judge with what it says is evidence commissioner Roger Goodell did not improperly pre-judge the four players suspended in the bounty investigation, Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker LaMarr Woodley heard that his high school alma mater needed to charge participation fees for its athletes due to budget cuts…so what does Woodley do?  He picked up the bill, not just for his former high school, but for the entire school district to the tune of $60,000!  The Houston Texans agreed with left tackle Duane Brown on a multiyear contract extension on Thursday and the deal is worth $53.4 million over six years and includes $22.08 million in guarantees, after a little pushing and shoving, New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick reached his breaking point Thursday and kicked punt returner Julian Edelman and special-teamer Niko Koutouvides out of practice, and finally, a Dallas Cowboys fan is suing the team and owner/general manager Jerry Jones after she suffered severe burns to her butt while allegedly sitting on a bench outside Cowboys Stadium before a team scrimmage in August 2010….talk about hot pants…..huh?!
