The National League had eight games on tap as the Milwaukee Brewers were SHUT OUT by the defending champion St. Louis Cardinals 3-0, the Pittsburgh Pirates dominated the Cincinnati Reds 6-2 as Andrew McCutchen launched his 23rd homer, the Atlanta Braves demolished the Houston Astros 6-1 as David Ross went yard, the Miami Marlins lost 4-1 to the Washington Nationals as Stephan Strasburg won his 12th game, while the Arizona Diamondbacks lost by a run to the Philadelphia Phillies 5-4 as Ryan Howard singled home the winning run, the San Francisco Giants pounded the Colorado Rockies 8-3 as newly acquired Hunter Pence poured in 3 RBI’s, the New York Mets were hammered by the San Diego Padres 7-3 as Carlos Quentin homered and the Chicago Cubs lost to the LA Dodgers 7-6 with a RBI single from Hanley Ramirez.
Jeff Gordon notched his 1st win of the season, his 98th career win at Pocono Raceway as the race was called after 98 laps due to a torrential downpour that also claimed a fan’s life because of lighting.  Kasey Kahne finished 2nd , Martin Truex, Jr. finished 3rd, while Brad Keselowski rolled into 4th and Tony Stewart round out the top five finishers, but Dale Earnhardt, Jr. still leads in points with 744.
The Nationwide Series was back in action and after a penalty that cost him a race in Indianapolis last week; Jeff Sadler was cautiously aggressive as he won the NASCAR Nationwide Series in Iowa, while Justin Allgaier placed 2nd and Sam Hornish, Jr, who replaced A. J. Allmendinger due to his suspension for failing NASCAR’s drug policy, placed 3rd.

The Wonder Women in the NHRA created history as Courtney Force won her first victory of her career at Pacific Raceways and Erica Enders notched her second victory of the season in the Pro Stock final.  With the ladies winning, they became the first pair of women to win in the pro classes on the same day.  Other winners in open wheel racing circuit were Scott Dixon in the Mid-Ohio, Tristan Vautier at the Grand Prix of Trois Rivieres and Klaus Graf and Lucas Luhr won the American Le Mans race at Mid –Ohio Sports Car Course.
The annual Hall of Fame game in the NFL took place last night as the Arizona Cardinals faced off against the New Orleans Saints a lot the starters witnessed little playing time as the Saints defeated the Cardinals 17-10.
With one hole to play and potentially capping off a wire-to-wire win at the WGC Bridgestone Invitational, Jim Furyk did the unthinkable as he double bogeys the 18th hole that opened the door for Keagan Bradley to pour in a 15 foot par putt to capture the win, the third of his career that paid him $1.4 million dollars.  Tied for 2nd along with Furyk was Steve Stricker, Louis Oosthuizen finished 4th and Tiger Woods rebounded from an awful 1st round to finish tied for 8th.
Los Angeles was the landing spot for UFC on Fox Saturday night as Mauricio Rua got the best of Brandon Vera with a flurry of punches the ended the match at the 4:09 mark in the 4th round and Lyoto Machida earned a title shot by knocking out Ryan Bader and Machida will either face Jon Jones or Dan Henderson.
Major League Soccer had two games on tap last night as the Portland Timbers finished with a 1-1 tie against FC Dallas and Seattle Sounders FC SHUT OUT the LA Galaxy4-0.
