Derek Jeter tips his cap after his 200th hit for 8 seasons tied with Lou Gehrig |
The MAC Conference had
the Grid Iron all to itself last night in college football as Kent State battled
Buffalo and Kent State wasted no time in putting points on the board as they
scored at the 12 minute 18 second mark and pretty much never looked back as the
manhandled
Buffalo 23-7 they rushed for almost 240 yards as Dri Archer had 127 yards and a
score and Trayion Durham had 112 yards.
Major League baseball
had plethora of games on the diamond last night starting with American League
as the Toronto Blue Jays lost to the New York Yankees 4-2 as Andy Pettitte wins
in his first game back and Derek Jeter tied Lou Gehrig for the most 200 hit
seasons with eight and Ichiro Suzuki, the Detroit Tigers blasted the Oakland A’s 6-2 as
Miguel Cabrera belts his 41st homer, the Minnesota Twins got past
the Cleveland Indians 6-4 as Josh Willingham belts his 35th homer
and drove in 4 RBI’s, in the 2nd game between the New York Yankees
and the Toronto Blue Jays, the result were the same, just with a different
score as the Yankees defeated the Blue Jays 2-1 as Ichiro Suzuki put in work
with 4 hits during his 4 at bats, the Boston Red Sox was literally spanked by the Tampa
Bay Rays 13-3 as Carlos Pena went yard and the Red Sox clinch a losing record,
while the Chicago White Sox were SHUT OUT by the
Kansas City Royals 3-0, the Texas Rangers powered past the LA Angels 6-0 and after 18
innings of ball on Tuesday night, the Baltimore Orioles and Seattle Mariners
played more extra innings last night with a total of 11 as the O’s notch 3-1win
with Adam Jones knocking out his 30th home run.
The ladies only had one
game on the hard court last night as the Indiana Fever lost to the Connecticut
Sun 73-67 as Kara Lawson poured in 23 points and 9 in the 4th quarter
to lead her team to victory.
For your NFL Quick
Hits, as the NFL replacement refs are taking a bath in criticism, the numbers
just don’t lie as there is not a major difference than the regular officials
such as:
• The
average number of penalties per game is down from 15.2 to 14.7.
• On
player-safety calls, such as roughing the passer; unnecessary roughness,
including hitting defenseless players; and face-mask or horse-collar
violations, the calls are nearly even: 75 this year, 74 last.
• Instant
replay reviews are way up, an increase of 16. But the percentage of reversals
is way down: 23 this year out of 62 as opposed to 21 of 46 in 2011.
• Defensive
pass interference and illegal contact penalties are up, but only from 48 to 51,
surprising because of the hubbub raised on the airwaves about the lack of such
calls
Washington Redskins receiver Joshua Morgan felt the
full downside of the social media age this week, receiving death threats and
other vicious messages on Twitter because of his fourth-quarter blunder in the
loss to the St. Louis Rams, Seattle
Seahawks wide receiver Golden Tate was fined $21,000 for a blindside block on
Dallas Cowboys linebacker Sean Lee, a source said, and finally, in a feel good
story, Brian Banks dream of the playing professional football has come true as
he has signed with the Las Vegas
Locomotives of the United Football League, after being exonerated for a rape
conviction and spending five years in prison.
