The National League in Major League Baseball had eight games swinging their bats last night as the Chicago Cubs got trounced upon by the Washington Nationals 11-5 with a total of 6 homers from the Nationals and Adam LaRoche did it twice, the Houston Astros were blasted by the Pittsburgh Pirates 6-2 as Andrew McCutchen collects 4 hits and 3 RBI’s, the Colorado Rockies SHUT OUT and crushed the Atlanta Braves 6-0 as Carlos Gonzalez went yard, the Philadelphia Phillies were defeated 2-1 by the Cincinnati Reds as Jay Bruce delivered his 31st homer for a 2 run blast, the Milwaukee Brewers slammed the Miami Marlins 8-4 as Norichika Aoki launched a homerun, while the New York Mets were dominated by the defending champs St. Louis Cardinals 5-1, the San Diego Padres needed all 11 innings to knock off the LA Dodgers as Logan Forsythe singled to center field that eventually lead to 3 runs total to cap the win and the Arizona Diamondbacks got past the San Francisco Giants 8-6 in 11 innings as Jason Kubel’s deep right single RBI broke a 6-6 tie and Miguel Montero’s RBI single ended the game.
The ladies were back in action in the WNBA with two games slated as the Connecticut sun got past the Washington Mystics 77-70 with a big time double-double from Tina Charles with 20 points and 13 boards and the LA Sparks lost yet another game, this time to the Minnesota Lynx 88-77 as Maya Moore and Seimone Augustus each poured in 23 points.
For your NFL Quick Hits, the NFL Players Association is investigating agent Drew Rosenhaus and his business ties with Jeff Rubin, a former financial adviser who convinced players to invest in a failed Alabama casino, according to a Yahoo! Sports report and the report cited Rosenhaus’ relationship with Rubin might have caused Rosenhaus to breach financial responsibilities due his players as a union-certified agent, when the Pittsburgh Steelers open their season against the Broncos on Sunday night, Pittsburgh safety Ryan Clark will not play because of the health risks imposed by Denver's high altitude due to his sickle cell trait, Baltimore Ravens offensive tackle Bryant McKinnie restructured his contract Tuesday to remain with the team, quarterback David Garrard has been released by the Miami Dolphins, leaving Matt Moore as the veteran backup to rookie starter Ryan Tannehill, the NFL Players Association has asked a federal judge for a temporary restraining order that would allow players suspended in connection with the NFL's bounty investigation to rejoin their teams in time to play for the regular season openers, but no ruling has been decided, and finally, the Bengals have placed center Kyle Cook on the injured reserve list while giving him a chance to return later this season if his right ankle heals.
