Roger Goodell upholds bounty suspensions for two and reduced suspensions for two others |
In news that I broke on
my Twitter @ceejaysports yesterday, National Football League Commissioner Roger
Goodell upheld the suspensions of two the suspended players involved in the New
Orleans Saints Bounty Scandal and reduced the punishment for two others. Jonathan Vilma, who had received the harshest
punishment with being suspended for a year, will remain suspended, but will
keep the six weeks’ worth of game checks as he had been on the physically
unable to perform list and defensive end Will Smith’s suspension will also
remain intact, which is four games.
Scott Fujita, linebacker now with the Cleveland Browns had his
suspension reduced from three games to one and free agent Anthony Hargrove had
his suspension trimmed by one game to seven. As a result of Goodell’s decision,
Fujita, Smith and Hargrove will receive a total of $1,042,649 in back pay. The players do have 72 hours to appeal and if
they do, they would be allowed to play until the completion of the appeals
process.
For your NFL Quick
Hits, Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III has been cleared to
practice without contact Wednesday, according to a report by The Washington
Post, linebacker Brian Cushing is out for the season with a torn left knee
ligament, leaving the unbeaten Houston Texans without their top tackler and one
of their emotional leaders, and finally, the Washington Redskins cut Billy
Cundiff on Tuesday, the second time the kicker has been released this season
and signed former UCLA placekicker Kai Forbath.
