Something to yell about
as the Giants take a 2-1
series lead over the Reds
The National League continued one of two NLDS games as Game 3 between the San Francisco Giants and the Cincinnati Reds required 10 innings of baseball as the Scott Rolen of the Reds committed an error, which allowed Buster Posey to score to give the Giants the 2-1 win and take a 2-1 series lead.

Texas Southern athletic department
slapped with five years probation
In sporting news, the 2010 SWAC Conference title that was won by Texas Southern’s football team will be a distant memory as the NCAA has slapped the university’s athletic department with five years’ probation.  The NCAA concluded that TSU’s culture of rule breaking, which spans over a period of two decades, included improper recruiting tactics, academic impropriety and financial aid and eligibility violations that involved 129 student-athletes in 13 sports.  In the NCAA’s 34 page report, it cited TSU with not having institutional control and the sanctions levied by the NCAA, including some self-imposed by TSU, consist of postseason bans for football through 2014 and men's basketball through 2012-13, football scheduling and scholarship restrictions and an order vacating won-loss records and championships from 2006 through 2010 in all sports and through 2011 in women's soccer and football.

For your NBA Quick Dribbles, Dwight Howard has been cleared for limited five-on-five scrimmages with the Los Angeles Lakers in his latest step back from offseason surgery, but will not play in the Lakers' next preseason game Wednesday night against Portland in Ontario, CA, in an interview with CBSSports.com, LA Lakers superstar guard Kobe Bryant, indicated that he will retire after the 2013-14 season, due to a sore right knee,  Dallas Mavericks star Dirk Nowitzki, did not play in the team's 99-85 preseason loss to FC Barcelona Regal on Tuesday, Los Angeles Lakers forward Jordan Hill said he didn't need surgery to repair the herniated disk in his back and will sit out a week and be reevaluated, and finally, Los Angeles Clippers guard Chris Paul participated in full-contact practice Tuesday morning in Beijing for the first time since undergoing surgery to repair a torn ligament in his right thumb in August, according to the team's official website.
