            Tulane joined the Big East in all sports on Tuesday, becoming the latest addition to the rapidly rebuilding conference, while East Carolina also is headed to the Big East as a football-only member. Both schools will join the league in 2014, Tulsa athletic director Ross Parmley was placed on paid leave Tuesday as the university investigates allegations that he may have been involved with an alleged bookie in Oklahoma City, the Atlantic Coast Conference has filed a lawsuit against Maryland seeking full payment of the approximately $53 million exit fee for the school's move to the Big Ten, Arkansas has made a head-coaching offer to LSU's Les Miles, the New Orleans Times-Picayune reports and the deal is worth $27.5 million over five years, Kentucky has hired Florida State defensive coordinator Mark Stoops as the Wildcats' football coach, Southern Mississippi has fired coach Ellis Johnson after one disastrous season that saw the program plummet from Conference USA champion to the worst record in the Football Bowl Subdivision going 0-12, Ryan Murray of the Columbus Blue Jackets will have shoulder surgery in the next two to three weeks and will need six months to recover, All-Star Carlos Ruiz was suspended Tuesday for the first 25 games of next season following a positive test for an amphetamine, Andy Pettitte is close to finishing a new, one-year deal worth nearly $11 million with the New York Yankees, the New York Mets have offered a contract extension to David Wright that would keep the All-Star third baseman with the club through at least 2020 and the deal is for a seven year extension on top of the $16 million he is owed for 2013, free-agent reliever Ryan Madson has reached an agreement with the Los Angeles Angels on a one-year contract pending a physical exam, the Chicago Cubs signed right-handed pitcher Scott Feldman to a one-year contract worth $6 million with the chance to earn an additional $1 million in incentives, and finally, Toronto Blue Jays right-handed reliever Casey Janssen has had surgery on his throwing shoulder and is expected to be ready for spring training.
