               Awards show...precursor to the Heisman?
The 22nd Annual Home Depot College Football Awards show took place last night at Disney World and is the recap of the winners:

•           Maxwell Award for the nation's most outstanding player went to Norte Dame’s Manti Te’o and he also collected the Bednarik Award for top defensive player and Walter Camp Foundation player of the year

•           Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award went to Johnny Manziel of Texas A&M and he was the first freshman to win the award

•           Doak Walker Award went to Wisconsin's Montee Ball for the nation's outstanding running back

•           Biletnikoff Award was awarded to USC's Marqise Lee for the nation's outstanding wide receiver

•           Lou Groza Collegiate Place Kicker Award went to Tulane's Cairo Santos

•           Ray Guy Award went to Louisiana Tech's Ryan Allen for the nation's most outstanding collegiate punter for the second consecutive year

For your Quick News & Notes, hospital officials at Intermountain Medical Center says Utah State basketball player Danny Berger, who collapsed at practice has been moved out of the intensive care unit and upgraded to fair condition, Cowboys Stadium could become a major home for college basketball in the next 15 months as the stadium will host an NCAA men's basketball tournament regional in March and the 2014 Final Four, and there are conversations for it to host four games to be played simultaneously on Veterans Day weekend next year, Louisville coach Charlie Strong will receive a new eight-year contract through 2020 after turning down an offer from Tennessee, sources told ESPN, Cincinnati's Butch Jones has declined an offer to become the new coach at Colorado, sources close to the coach told ESPN Thursday, after three days of labor talks aimed at reaching a new collective bargaining agreement, the league rejected the union's latest proposal and pulled several elements of its own off the negotiating table, the Michigan Senate approved legislation Wednesday to help finance a downtown Detroit project that would include a new home for the NHL's Detroit Red Wings, the Philadelphia Phillies filled their biggest need right before the winter meetings ended, acquiring center fielder Ben Revere from the Minnesota Twins for right-handers Vance Worley and Trevor May on Thursday, the Boston Red Sox and free-agent reliever Koji Uehara struck an agreement on a one-year deal Thursday and the deal is pending a physical, the Minnesota Twins have agreed to terms with right-handed reliever Jared Burton on a two-year, $5.5 million contract that includes a club option for the 2015 season, and finally, the Chicago Cubs agreed to a deal Thursday with Japanese relief pitcher Kyuji Fujikawa, but terms were not disclosed.
