Tuesday scores in the NHL & ESPN/USA Today Coaches Postseason College Poll: 4/4, Vol. 113, 2nd Edt'n

After only two games on the frozen pond on Monday night, games were plentiful in the National Hockey League last night as the Toronto Maple Leafs fought a good fight, but came up short against the Buffalo Sabres 6-5 in overtime, the New York Islanders lost against the New Jersey Devils 3-1, the  other New York team won as the  Rangers skated past the Philadelphia Flyers 5-3, the Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the defending champion Boston Bruins 5-3, while the Carolina Hurricanes eked out a one goal win over the Ottawa Senators 2-1,the Winnipeg Jets got past the Florida Panthers 5-4 in overtime, the Minnesota Wild lost in a shootout against the Nashville Predators 2-1, the San Jose Sharks outskated the Dallas Stars 5-2, the Anaheim Duck lost against the Vancouver Canucks 5-4 in a shootout and the Columbus Blue Jackets were SHUT OUT by the Phoenix Coyotes 2-0.
As the college basketball wrapped the season for the men on Monday, the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Postseason Poll was released and of course, Kentucky earned the top spot and Kansas #2, Ohio State and Louisville fall into the 3rd and 4th spot, Syracuse comes in 5th with North Carolina taking up residence at the 6th spot, coming in at the 7th spot is Michigan State, while Baylor settles in at 8th, Florida chomped their way to the 9th spot and Marquette round out the top ten.

It was ladies night last night as the Lady Bears of Baylor faced off against the Lady Fighting Irish of Norte Dame in the Low Do for the Women’s National Title game as Brittney Griner lead the charge as she lite up the scoreboard for 26 points and had 13 glass grabbing rebounds and threw in five blocked shots for good measure as Baylor demolished Norte Dame 80-61 to not only win their second national title, but did so going 40-0…that’s right folks, the first team in NCAA history to win 40 games. Congratulations the Lady Bears!
The National Basketball Association was balling last night with eight games on tap as the San Antonio Spurs literally spanked the Cleveland Cavaliers 125-90 as recently signed Patty Mills lead all scorers with 20 points, the New York Knicks was outpaced by the Indiana Pacers 112-104 as Danny Granger put up 27 points, the Charlotte Bobcats came up short against the Toronto Raptors 92-87 as Andre Bargnani was feeling it with his 30 points, the Orlando Magic continues to loose playoff positioning as they lost to the Detroit Pistons 102-95 with the help of Greg Monroe’s double-double, which was 22 points and 11 rebounds, while the Philadelphia 76er’s were knocked off by the Miami Heat 99-93 as LeBron James scorched the opposing team with 41 points, the Golden State Warriors was defeated by the Memphis Grizzlies 98-94 with 19 points from O. J. Mayo, the Phoenix Suns outlasted the Sacramento Kings 109-100 as Marcin Gortat came up huge with 20 points and 10 rebounds and the New Jersey Nets lost a close one to the LA Lakers 91-87 as Kobe “The Black Mamba” Bryant rattled in the go ahead three pointer to secure the win as he lead all scorers with 24 points.

For your 1st segment quick news and notes, Detroit Lions defensive tackle Nick Fairley was arrested on a second-degree marijuana possession charge on Tuesday afternoon in Mobile, AL, Mobile police spokesman, former Seattle Seahawks linebacker David Hawthorne agreed to terms Tuesday on a five-year contract with the New Orleans Saints, the team announced on Twitter and New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton, general manager Mickey Loomis and assistant head coach Joe Vitt are set to have their NFL appeals heard Thursday regarding the punishment they've received for their roles in New Orleans' bounty system.
