NHL PLayoffs, NBA & MLB scores: 4/16, Vol. 121, 1st Edition

Yesterday, a man step to me, he said how can you smile when your world is crumbling down, I said, here's my secret, when I wanna cry, I take a look around and I see that I'm getting by, and I just hold on,  cause change is coming! There were a trio of game three’s on the frozen pond in the National Hockey League as the Nashville Predators, eked out a point win over the Detroit Red Wings 3-2 to take a 2-1 series lead, the Pittsburgh Penguins were clobbered by the Philadelphia Flyers 8-4 as the Flyers take a commanding 3-0 lead as Maxime Talbot was one of few players with multiple goals, the Vancouver Canucks were SHUT OUT by the LA Kings 1-0 as they also take a commanding 3-0 series lead and in the fourth game, the New Jersey Devils were out skated by the Florida Panthers 4-2 to tie the series one all with a goals scored from Stephen Weiss.

The National Basketball Association was balling yesterday with nine games on the hard wood starting with a couple of marquee match-ups as the Miami Heat took on the New York Knicks and Carmelo Anthony scorched the Heat defense for 42 points however comma it was the 29 points from LeBron James that lead the Heat over the Knicks 93-85 in the first nationally televised games, the defending champion Dallas Mavericks was trying to avoid the season sweep by the LA Lakers in the second nationally televised game but Andrew Bynum said no, no, no and dominated with 23 points and 16 big boy rebounds as the Lakers got past the Mavericks 112-108 in overtime, the Toronto Raptors absolutely clipped the wings of the Atlanta Hawks 102-86 with 23 points from DeMar DeRozan, the Orlando Magic without Dwight Howard demolished the Cleveland Cavaliers 100-84 as Jameer Nelson netted 21 points,  the Chicago Bulls needed overtime to get by the Detroit Pistons 100-94 with Derrick Rose’s 24 points and 17 glass grabbing rebounds from Joakim Noah, while the Portland Trailblazers lost by one measly point to the Sacramento Kings 104-103 as DeMarcus Cousins scored 23 points, the Boston Celtics blasted the Charlotte Bobcats 94-82 as Rajon Rondo poured in 20 points and almost had the same amount of assist with 16, the Memphis Grizzlies were clawed up by the New Orleans Hornets 88-75 with Carl Landry’s double-double off the bench and the Houston Rockets were out muscled by the Denver Nuggets 101-86 with 20 points each from Ty Lawson and Aaron Afflalo.

There were plenty of bats swinging and missing in Major League Baseball yesterday with fifteen games on the diamond as the Baltimore Orioles were walloped by the Toronto Blue Jays 9-2, the Houston Astros lost a tight one in 11 innings to the Miami Marlins 5-4, the Tampa Bay Rays lost to the Boston Red Sox 6-4 as David Ortiz doubled in the go ahead run, the Milwaukee Brewers crushed by the Atlanta Braves 7-4, the Detroit Tigers ran past the Chicago White Sox 5-2, the Cincinnati Reds needed 11 innings to oust the Washington Nationals 8-5, the Cleveland Indians dominated the Kansas City Royals 13-7, the New York Mets were crushed by the Philadelphia Phillies 8-2 as Cole Hamels strikes out 10, while the Texas Rangers got by the Minnesota Twins 4-3, the Chicago Cubs were annihilated by the defending champion St. Louis Cardinals 10-3, the Oakland A’s lost to the Seattle Mariners 5-3, the Arizona Diamondbacks swung past the Colorado Rockies 5-2, the LA Angels were smothered by the New York Yankees 11-5, the Pittsburgh Pirates muscled past the San Francisco Giants 4-1and the San Diego Padres came up short against the LA Dodgers 5-4 with a triple play at the top of the 9th inning.

NASCAR was speeding to the left at Texas Motor Speedway in the Sprint Cup Series as Greg Biffle and his #16 Ford ran past Jimmie Johnson to end his 49 race winless streak as the aforementioned Johnson finished second, Mark Martin third, Jeff Gordon fourth and Matt Kenseth finished fifth.

The RBC Heritage at Hilton Head, SC with a purse of $5.7 million dollars witnessed Carl Pettersson with two t’s and two s’s cruise to win his fifth PGA Tour title and the first one since 2010 with a 14 under par as Zach Johnson came in second, Colt Knost third and Kevin Stadler and Billy Mayfair finished tied for fourth.

In the ATP Men’s US Claycourt Championships in Houston, Juan Monaco needed three sets to oust John Isner to claim his second clay court title of the year.

The Chicago Fire took on the Houston Dynamo in Major League Soccer and it was the lighting the stole the show, as the game was called with 66 minutes played with a score of 1-1.

In traditional square ring, Brandon Rios failed to make weight for the lightweight bout and lost out on a $50k bonus, but had just enough to out punch Richard Abril at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas and in another the fight, Juan Manuel Marquez made his return to the boxing ring in good fashion as he no problems with Sergey Fedchenko to claim the WBO interim junior welterweight title.
