In sporting news, the end of an extraordinary career has come to an end as legendary basketball coach Pat Summit of the University of Tennessee has relinquished her duties as the leader and stepped aside due to being diagnosed with early onset dementia-Alzheimer’s less than a year ago. Summit coached the Volunteers for 38 years and won eight national championships, while winning 1,098 games, 16 regular season Southeastern Conference championships and 16 SEC tournament titles, but most importantly, was an instrumental mentor figure to hundreds upon hundreds of young women. Summitt’s long-time assistant coach for 27 years, Holly Warlick, will take over the program as head coach and Summitt will hold the title of head coach emeritus and report to the athletic director and assist the women’s program. If you have a loved that has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, please visit alz.org or patsummitt.org .
