NBA, NHL Playoffs & AL-MLB Scores: 5/14, Vol. 141, 1st Edition

The sports world was rocking over the weekend as some teams in the NBA Playoffs were sent home as Denver Nuggets were sent back to mile high in game 7 seven against the LA Lakers and the Boston Celtics won their opening game against the Philadelphia 76er’s on Saturday and on Sunday, the Lob City Clippers were trying to send the Memphis Grizzlies to a bar-b-que vacation as the Grizzlies tried their best but came up short as the Clippers won their 3rd playoff series in 41 years 82-72 as Chris Paul lead his team with 19 points and the Clippers will face off against the San Antonio Spurs in the Eastern Conference Semi-Final on Tuesday.  In the second game on Sunday, the Miami Heat cruised past the Indiana Pacers 95-86 as LeBron James, who was presented with his 3rd MVP trophy, was on fire with 32 points and 15 glass grabbing rebounds and the Heat take a 1-0 series lead.

And in NBA news, as reported on my Twitter page last night, Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Kyrie Irving is expected to be named Rookie of the Year on Tuesday.

The Western Conference Finals kicked off in the National Hockey League as the LA Kings skated past the Phoenix Coyotes 4-2 as Dwight King scored 2 goals and the Kings take a 1-0 series lead.

There were 7 games on the diamond in the American League for Major League Baseball as the LA Angels was manhandled by the Texas Rangers 13-6 as Mark Trumbo belted his 6th homer of the season and Vernon Wells launched his 5th, the Seattle Mariners roughed up Andy Petite in his return to the New York Yankees 6-2 as Casper Wells launched his first homerun, the Tampa Bay Rays eked out a won run win with a score of 9-8 against the Baltimore Orioles with Ben Zobrist belting a homerun, ohhhhh, the Boston Red Sox literally spanked the Cleveland Indians 12-1 as Jarrod Saltalamacchia belted a homerun and drove in 5 RBI’s, while the Kansas City Royals annihilated the Chicago White Sox 9-1 with a homerun from Jeff Francoeur, the Toronto Blue Jays was defeated by the Minnesota Twins 4-3 as Scott Diamond notched his 2nd win of the season and the Detroit Tigers knocked off the Oakland A’s 3-1 with Seth Smith’s 3rd homerun of the season.

The National League in Major League Baseball had 8 games on the diamond yesterday as the Miami Marlins crushed New York Mets 8-4 as Giancarlo Stanton belted a grand slam in the 9th to help secure the win, the Pittsburgh Pirates needed 12 innings to knock off the pesky Houston Astros 3-2 as Tony Watson remained undefeated while getting his 3rd win, the Chicago Cubs pounded the Milwaukee Brewers 8-2 with the help of Reed Johnson’s 1st homerun, the Atlanta Braves walloped the defending champions St. Louis Cardinals 7-4 with Jason Heyward’s 3 RBI’s, while the Colorado Rockies was hammered by the LA Dodgers 11-5 with A. J. Ellis belting a homerun and the Dodgers sweeping the series, the San Francisco Giants demolished the Arizona Diamondbacks 7-3 with Brett Pill’s 3rd homer of the season and the Cincinnati Reds defeat the Washington Nationals 9-6 with Joey Votto’s walk off grand slam capping the victory.

The Players Championship at Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL with a purse of $9.5 million dollars witnessed Kevin Na’s constant waggling crumbled his game as Matt Kuchar rose to the top of the leaderboard and stayed there and won his 4th career PGA Tour victory with a 13 under par for a cool $1.7 million prize while Martin Laird, Rickie Fowler, Ben Curtis and Zach Johnson finished tied for second and Tiger Woods finished tied for 40th.

Round and round they go as NASCAR raced on the track that’s too tough to tame at Darlington Raceway as Jimmie Johnson notches his 1st win of the season and gave Hendricks Motorsports their 200th Sprint Cup victory while Denny Hamlin finished 2nd, Tony Stewart finished 3rd, coming in at the 4th spot was Kyle Busch and Martin Truex, Jr. round out the top five.

And in the Nationwide Series, Joey Lagano captured the checkered flag while Denny Hamlin came in 2nd, Brad Keselowski finished 3rd, Sam Hornish, Jr. 4th and Austin Dillon finished 5th.

The Madrid Open came to a conclusion and witnessed Serena Williams powering past Victoria Azarenka 6-1, 6-3

in straight sets as Williams won her 2nd tournament this season and her 41st career victory and Roger Federer came from behind to knock off Tomas Berdych 3-6, 7-5, 7-5 and the Madrid Open for the 3rd time.
