The National League had the bats swinging in Major League Baseball as the New York Mets outlast the Pittsburgh Pirates 3-1, the San Francisco Giants were hammered by the Milwaukee Brewers 8-5 with a homer from Jonathan Lucroy, the re-match between the Washington Nationals and the Philadelphia Phillies in which the first game witnessed Phillies pitcher Cole Hamels plunking rookie National Bryce Harper went off without a hitch last night as Hamels was this close to a no hitter as he struck out 8 batters including striking out Harper twice as the Phillies notched the win with a score of 4-1, the Atlanta Braves lost to the Cincinnati Reds 2-1 with Todd Frazier’s walk off homer, the Colorado Rockies blasted the Miami Marlins 8-4 as Troy Tulowitzki belted a homerun, while the Houston Astros are edging close to the .500 mark by pounding the Chicago Cubs 5-1 and swept the series, the San Diego Padres were clobbered by the defending champion St. Louis Cardinals 6-3 as Carlos Beltran belted his 14th homer and the LA Dodgers were literally spanked by the Arizona Diamondbacks 11-4 with Justin Upton and Ryan Roberts both going yard.

The Western Conference Finals are set with the fundamentally sound San Antonio Spurs pitted against the run and gun Oklahoma City Thunder with Game 1 slated for Sunday.  However comma I digress as the Eastern Conference Finals are still trying to be settled as the Indiana Pacers visited the Miami Heat and the Heat promptly gave them a literal spanking and totally embarrassed the Pacers 115-83 with LeBron James’ 30 points and Dwayne Wade added 28 more as the Heat shot a franchise record of 61% to take control of series 3-2 and Game 6 will be played on Thursday.

The Western Conference Final came to an end in the National Hockey League as the LA Kings muscled past the Phoenix Coyotes in overtime 4-3 as Mike Smith had 47 saves to help the Kings advance to the Stanley Cup Finals.

The ladies of the B-Ball hard-court was back in action with 3 games as the defending champions Minnesota Lynx trounced the New York Liberty 80-62 as Semoine Augustus was back in the lineup and scored a game high of 22 points, the Phoenix Mercury edged out the Tulsa Shock 89-87 as Candice Dupree was on fire with 31 points and the Seattle Storm was molliwoped by LA Sparks 74-61 with Candace Parker’s double-double with 21 points and 14 rebounds.

The American League had a plethora of games on the diamond in Major League Baseball as the Boston Red Sox lost to the Baltimore Orioles 4-1 Brian Matusz struck out 9 batters, the Detroit Tigers was defeated by the Cleveland Indians 5-3, the Kansas City Royals was knocked of 3-2 by the New York Yankees as Robinson launched a homerun, while the Toronto Blue Jays was clobbered by the Tampa Bay Rays 8-5 as Carlos Pena went yard, the Minnesota Twins blasted the Chicago White Sox 9-2 with Justin Morneau’s homer, the LA Angels SHUT OUT the Oakland A’s 5-0 as Albert Pujos get his 4th homer and the Texas Rangers breezed by the Seattle Mariners 3-1.

Dickey won his 6th game, the Atlanta Braves was defeated by the Cincinnati Reds 4-3 as Brandon Phillips homered twice, the Colorado Rockies lost by a run against the Miami Marlins 7-6 as Ricky Nolasco becomes the Marlins all time wins leader with 69 wins, while the Chicago Cubs lost 2-1 to the Houston Astros with a homerun from Jose Altuve, the San Francisco Giants knocked off the Milwaukee Brewers 6-4 as Buster Posey belted a homerun, the San Diego Padres were SHUT OUT 4-0 by the defending champion St. Louis Cardinals as Adam Wainwright fanned 9 batters and the LA Dodgers needed 8 runs to get past the Arizona Diamondbacks 7 runs as Ivan De Jesus pinched hit his way to 3 RBI’s.

In sporting news, as the National Football League moves in the direction of making one the most violent games safer, the league has made thigh and knee pads mandatory equipment for the 2013 season.  Of course, this does not sit well with the players union as they believe the rule should be negotiated. And if a player enters the field of play without the proper equipment, he will be sent off the field by a game official.
