Since the fellows had the night off, the Ladies of the WNBA were balling last night with two games on tap as the Washington Mystics lost a close on 80-77 to the Phoenix Mercury as Samantha Prahalis scored 7 of the her 15 points in the last 2:02 of the game to will her team victory and the Tulsa Shock were shocked and awed by the LA Sparks 95-79 as Candace Parker was on fire with 33 points.

Major League Baseball a bountiful of games on the diamond last night with one game in the National League as the Philadelphia Phillies squeezed out the win over the Colorado Rockies 7-6 despite 3 homers from 3 different Rockies and American League Stadium had six games running the bases as the Atlanta Braves and the New York Yankees launched 9 homeruns total, but it was the Braves demolishing the Yankees 10-5 as Jason Heyward belted 2 homeruns, the defending champion St. Louis Cardinals knocked off the Detroit Tigers 3-1 as Jason Westbrook pitched a complete game, the Cincinnati Reds were manhandled by the Cleveland Indians 8-1 as Justin Masterson also pitched a complete game and struck out 9 batters, the Miami Marlins were literally spanked by the Boston Red Sox 15-5 with a grand slam from Big Papi Ortiz, while the Chicago Cubs were SHUT OUT and outmuscled by the Chicago White Sox as Gordon Beckham launched his 9th homerun and drove in 4 RBI’s and the Oakland A’s are on a tear as they defeat the LA Dodgers 4-1 as Tommy Milone pitched a 3 hitter complete game.

Major League Soccer had several games kicking around last night as the Houston Dynamo remained undefeated at home with a 3-3 tie against Toronto FC, Real Salt Lake lost by a goal to the LA Galaxy 3-2, the Colorado Rapid lost to the San Jose Earthquakes 2-1, while the Seattle Sounders FC played to a 1-1 tie against Sporting Kansas City, Chivas USA got past the Montreal Impact 2-1and the Vancouver Whitecaps played to a 1-1 tie against the New York Red Bulls.

In sporting news, pending approval by the BCS Presidential Oversight Committee, the BCS commissioners and Norte Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick placed their seal of approval on a seeded four team playoff system for college football slated to start in 2014.  The oversight committee is scheduled to meet on June 26 and vote on the model to replace the current BCS system. 

A couple of Quick News & Notes, the World Boxing Organization completed its review Wednesday of Timothy Bradley's controversial split-decision victory against Manny Pacquiao with its five-member international judging panel all scoring the fight for Pacquiao, even though the official result will stand and Pittsburgh Penguins center Evgeni Malkin won the Hart Trophy on Wednesday night, becoming the NHL's most valuable player for the first time.

For your NBA Quick Dribbles, The Washington Wizards have reached an agreement with the New Orleans Hornets on a trade to acquire Hornets center Emeka Okafor and the Wizards will get Okafor and Hornets forward Trevor Ariza for Rashard Lewis and Washington's No. 46 pick in next week's draft, the Orlando Magic have hired Rob Hennigan, former assistant general manager/player personnel, to be the team's new general manager, the Charlotte Bobcats formally introduced Dunlap as the fifth coach in the franchise's eight-year history on Wednesday, and immediately began talking about changing the franchise's culture of losing and finally, Chicago Bulls guard Derrick Rose is "ahead of schedule" in the rehabilitation process on his torn left ACL, according to Dr. Brian Cole, who performed surgery on the former MVP last month.

Major League Baseball had had seven games swinging their bats in Interleague games in National League stadiums as the Kansas City Royals edged out the Houston Astros 2-1 with Alex Gordon’s score in the 6th inning to prove to be the game winning run, the Milwaukee Brewers blasted the Toronto and speaking of the long ball, the game between the Seattle Mariners and the Arizona Diamondbacks had a total of 8 homeruns between the two teams as the Diamondbacks scored 14 runs to the Mariners 10 runs, the Texas Rangers got past the San Diego Padres 4-2 with 8 strikeouts from Yu Darvish, while the Tampa Bay Rays lost to the Washington Nationals 3-2 as Stephen Strasburg notched his 9th win, the Minnesota Twins eked out a one run win against the Pittsburgh Pirates 2-1as Josh Willingham belted a homerun in the 8th inning that ultimately sealed the deal and the Baltimore Orioles were swept by the New York Mets 4-3 with 9 strikeouts from Dillon Gee.

Rain, rain, go away….and you know the rest.  There was one game scheduled last night for the College World Series, but the as intro eluded, it was postponed due to rain and Kent State and South Carolina today at 1p EST and the winner will have to play a second game later tonight against Arkansas at 9pm EST.

In sporting news, college basketball will have ten fewer teams during March Madness next year due to the NCAA new academic requirements.  The NCAA’s Academic Progress Rate otherwise known as APR requires a score of 900 during a four year period that measures classroom performance of every Division I school and the data collected for this year were calculated from the 2007-08, and 2010-11 school years.  The biggest name that will miss out on the madness next is UCONN, the first school from the big six conferences to be banned and other schools on the list are Arkansas-Pine Bluff, California-Riverside, Cal State Bakersfield, Jacksonville State, Mississippi Valley State, North Carolina-Wilmington, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Toledo and Towson.  It is worthy to note that Cal State may be removed from the list since there is still being evaluated.
