College Football Playoff, NBA News, MLB & WNBA Scores & Olympics: 6/27, Vol. 173, 1st Edition

Stand and be sure….be not entangled in that bondage again! You just stand and be sure! God has a purpose! Yes, God has a plan!  You just stand and be sure!  Good morning and welcome back to your Spiritual Sports Segment on Rhema Gospel Radio better than when you it yesterday, I’m C.E.E.J.A.Y!  Le’ Go!

The way the Coach's Trophy
is won is changing in 2014
The landscape of college football continues to change especially with the Presidential Oversight Committee giving the green light yesterday on a new four team playoff system to determine the national champion.  The current BCS system as we know it, whether you like it or not, will disappear for good two years from now and the new system will be ushered in in 2014.  The new system will be in place for 12 years until the year of 2025 and the highlights are as follows: the four teams will be chosen by a selection committee, the semifinals will be held at current bowl sites and the national championship game will be awarded to the highest bidder.

Although the deal is approved, some of uncertainties are:
•           Who will be on the committee that selects seeded teams?
•           What format will the committee use to choose the seeded teams?
•           How will the money be split among the conferences?
•           Will teams from non-automatic qualifying conferences have access to the tournament?

Plenty of bats were swinging in the American League in Major League Baseball as they had seven games on the diamond as the LA Angels blasted the Baltimore Orioles 7-3 as the Angels used not 2, 4, 6, not even 8 but 17 hits and four homeruns to run away from the Orioles, the Cleveland Indians lost to the New York Yankees 6-4 as A-Rod went yard and Dewayne Wise, wisely fooled an umpire into thinking he caught a foul ball, straight trickery, the Toronto Blue Jays were pounded by the Boston Red Sox 5-1 as Jarrod Saltalamacchia hit his 14th homer, the Detroit Tigers couldn’t muster the win and lost to the Texas Rangers as Yu Darvish struck out 10 batters for his 10th win, while the Tampa Bay Rays were clobbered by the Kansas City Royals 8-2 with a homer from Jeff Francoeur, the Chicago White Sox eked out a one run win against the Minnesota Twins 3-2 with 9 strikeouts from Gavin Floyd and the Oakland A’s lost by a run to the Seattle Mariners 3-2 as Brendan Ryan’s RBI in the 8th inning eventually sealed the deal.

The Queens on the B-Ball court were balling last night with three games that tipped off as the Indiana Fever and the Atlanta Dream tipped off at noon and the Dream tipped off the Fever 70-58 as Angel McCoughtry scored a game high of 22 points, the Seattle Storm got past the Washington Mystics 79-71 as Sue Bird played angry and poured in 25 game high points and the LA Sparks not only molliwoped by the Tulsa Shock, but they were also UPSET 91-75 as rookie Riquana Williams scored a season high 27 points.

For your London Summer Olympic News, Brendan Hansen, who retired from the sport after the Beijing Games but couldn't stay away, made his comeback worthwhile by winning the 100-meter breaststroke at the U.S. Olympic trials Tuesday night along with Eric Shanteau, Janet Evans put up an enormous effort, but the queen of distance swimming failed to qualify for the final of the 400-meter freestyle, Olympic decathlon champion Bryan Clay says he won't pursue a spot on the Olympic team in London after faltering at the U.S. track trials, Serena and Venus Williams have been chosen to extend their unbeaten streak in Olympic doubles when they seek a third gold medal in the event beginning late next month, and finally, Dana Vollmer will return to the Olympics after missing out on the Beijing Games in 2008 after she won the 100 fly Tuesday night.

For your NBA Quick Dribbles, the Detroit Pistons have agreed to trade Ben Gordon and a 2013 protected first-round draft pick to the Charlotte Bobcats for swingman Corey Maggette, the Minnesota Timberwolves have traded the 18th pick in the 2012 NBA draft to the Houston Rockets for Chase Budinger and the draft rights to Lior Eliyahu, the NBA has granted the Boston Celtics a 2013 second-round pick from Oklahoma City in a dispute over guard Jeff Green's medical condition, now that they have been crowned NBA champions, the next thing is to make the rounds on TV as LeBron James appeared on David Letterman, Chris Bosh appeared on Live! With Kelly and Dwayne Wade appeared on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and all three will appear today on The View and finally,  Amare Stoudemire has been fined $50,000 by the NBA after the New York Knicks star tweeted a gay slur…..ouch.

NFL News w/ Drew Brees, Aaron Berry & Mike Vick, MLB & Wimbledon Scores: 6/27, Vol. 173, 2nd Edition

Some people like to worry, Some people like hide, Some people like to run away From the pain inside, but God said weeping may endureth for a night, but joy cometh in the morning, so just hold to His hand unchanging hand! Welcome back to your Spiritual Sports on Rhema Gospel, I’m C.E.E.J.A.Y.!

Aaron Berry of the
Detroit Lions arrested
for DUI
The National League had one more game than their AL counterpart in Major League Baseball as the Pittsburgh Pirates lost by one measly run to the Philadelphia Phillies 5-4 as Carlos Ruiz went yard, the Arizona Diamondbacks were pummeled by the Atlanta Braves 8-1 as Tim Hudson pitched 8 strong innings with 7 strikeouts, the Milwaukee Brewers was defeated by the Cincinnati Reds 4-3 with Jay Bruce’s 3 RBI’s off his homerun, the defending champion St. Louis Cardinals knocked off the Miami Marlins 5-2 with a homer from Yadier Molina, the New York Mets were knocked off the Chicago Cubs 5-3 as Anthony Rizzo made his Cubs debut with 2 hits and go ahead RBI in the 8th inning proved to be the game winner, while the San Diego Padres lost to the Houston Astros 5-3 with Jed Lowrie’s 14th homer, the Washington Nationals literally spanked the Colorado Rockies 12-5 as the Nationals launched 4 homeruns and half of them coming from Adam LaRoche and the LA Dodgers were SHUT OUT by the San Francisco Giants 2-0 for the second consecutive game and Melky Cabrera belting a homerun.

For your 2012 Wimbledon highlights, Serena Williams did not follow her big sisters footsteps and instead won her opening match against 62nd ranked Barbora Zahlavova-Strycova 6-2, 6-4 and Rafael Nadal started slow like a train, but eventually steamrolled Thomaz Bellucci 7-6, 6-2, 6-3.

For your NFL Quick Hits, New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees remains adamant that the NFL's bounty investigation has not proved money ever changed hands in a pay-to-injure scheme, something the league vehemently disagrees with, and in my opinion, the Saints received a warning a few years ago and something had to happen to trigger an investigation, since I’m sure the NFL will not make up truncated allegations, nonetheless comma I digress, after I reported yesterday that former Baylor basketball player Richard Khamir Hurd was arrested on charges of trying to extort money from rookie quarterback Robert Griffin, III of the Washington Redskins stated “there's vultures out there, people looking to climb on top of all your money”, Detroit Lions cornerback Aaron Berry faces DUI, failure to stop and render aid from an accident and other counts after driving his vehicle into several parked cars and attempting to flee, said Harrisburg police, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick offered words of wisdom to his new peers Monday at the NFL's Rookie Symposium and stated “to be accountable for everything you do. You can't blame anybody else for your actions. The choices that you make each and every day are what shape your life", police say former Atlanta Falcons running back Jamal Anderson is facing a charge of driving under the influence after an officer pulled him over just northeast of Atlanta.
