NBA News w/ Joe Johnson, Olympic News w/ Jeneba Tarmoh News & AL-MLB Scores: 7/3, Vol. 177, 1st Edition

Tell me how do you handle the guilt of your past? Tell me, how do you deal with the shame? And how can you smile when your heart is broken and filled with pain? Tell me what do you give when you've given your all and it seems like you can't make it through?!  You just stand and let God work it out for you.  Good morning and welcome back to your Spiritual Sports Segment on Rhema Gospel Radio better than when you it last week, I’m C.E.E.J.A.Y!  Here We Go!

Michael Phelps will only compete
in seven events
Major League Baseball had six games in the American League as the New York Yankees was edged out by the Tampa Bay Rays by one run 4-3 with a the help from Mark Teixera’s error, the LA Angels SHUT OUT the Cleveland Indians 3-0 as Howard Kendrick homered, the Minnesota Twins defeated the Detroit Tigers 6-4 as the Twins put up four runs in the 4th that ultimately sealed the deal, while the Kansas City Royals literally spanked the Toronto Blue Jays 11-3 as Mike Moustakas belted a grand slam, the Boston Red Sox was blasted by the Oakland A’s 6-1 with Josh Reddick’s 19th homer of the season and the Baltimore Orioles was wiped off the diamond 6-3 by the Seattle Mariners as Migueal Olivo homered.
For your London Summer Olympic News, the country was waiting was for a run-off showdown between Allyson Felix and Jeneba Tarmoh, but it wasn’t meant to be as Tarmoh officially backed out of the run-off to give Felix the 3rd place nod and partially stated “I understand that with this decision I am no longer running the 100m dash in the Olympic Games and will be an alternate for the event. As an alternate I understand that I will be asked to run if another 100m runner decides not to for personal reasons, and/or on the 4x100m relay” and Felix released a statement that she was disappointed and wanted to earn her spot and will now turn her focus to the Olympics.  In my opinion, Tarmoh’s quote that she understands that she’s an alternate and will be asked to run if another 100m runner decides not to for personal reasons; that’s pretty interesting because maybe there’s a back room deal for Felix or another runner to bow at the last minute. Michael Phelps had a change of heart and will not compete in the 200m in the Olympics and will only compete in seven events versus the eight as he did in the 2008 Olympics, and finally, New Orleans Hornets rookie Anthony Davis, taken #1 in last week's NBA draft, could be forced to withdraw from Team USA consideration after suffering a sprained left ankle in a Hornets workout.
For your NBA Quick Dribbles, there is a lot going with free agency as the biggest story is the Brooklyn Nets have come to terms with the Atlanta Hawks on a multiplayer trade that will land them All-Star guard Joe Johnson in exchange for several players with expiring contracts and a protected first round lottery pick, thus financially squeezing out Dwight Howard who’s trade wish list only included the Nets, but, it is the framework of a deal and players are not allowed to sign until July 11, in addition, the Hawks also agreed in principle to trade forward Marvin Williams for Utah Jazz point guard Devin Harris, New York Knicks point guard Jeremy Lin has withdrawn from the USA Men's Select Team that will train against the national team in Las Vegas from July 6 to July 11 citing his status as a free agent, the Detroit Pistons have struck a verbal agreement to sign Ukranian center Vyacheslav Kravtsov to a multiyear deal, and finally, free-agent point guard Andre Miller agreed to re-sign with the Denver Nuggets on a three-year deal.

over Maria Sharapova
Just like their AL counterpart the National League in Major League Baseball also had six games on the diamond last night as the Houston Astros was simply befuddled by the Pittsburgh Pirates 11-2 as Garrett Jones belted back-to-back homers, the Chicago Cubs trounced the Atlanta Braves 4-1 as Jeff Samardzija struck out 11 batters, the Miami Marlins was outlasted by the Milwaukee Brewers 6-5 with Carlos Gomez’s homerun, while the Colorado Rockies were manhandled by the defending champion St. Louis Cardinals 9-3 with Allen Craig’s 2 homeruns, the San Diego Padres crushed the Arizona Diamondbacks 6-2 as  the Padres launched 3 homeruns and the Cincinnati Reds demolished the LA Dodgers 8-2 as Todd Frazier and Devin Mesoraco each had 3 RBI’s.
The 2012 Wimbledon had Manic Monday and it was just that for top ranked Maria Sharapova as she was UPSET by 15th ranked Sabine Lisicki of Germany with her hard hitting serves in straight sets 6-4, 6-3 and Kim Clijsters was dominated by 6th seeded Angelique Kerber, another German 6-1, 6-1 as Clijsters played in her final Wimbledon as she will retire later this year.  Roger Federer overcame back injury to beat Xavier Malisse 7-6, 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 to advance to the quarters and Novak Djokovic had no problems with Viktor Troicki and dispatched him in only 90 minutes 6-3, 6-1, 6-3 to also advance.
For your NFL Quick Hits, Tampa Bay Buccaneers corner back Eric Wright was arrested in Los Angeles on Monday for investigation of driving under the influence after police said he was involved in a crash near Staples Center, New Orleans head coach Sean Payton’s year-long suspension just got little bit longer as he has filed for divorce from his wife of nearly 20 years, the New Orleans Times in Marchmes-Picayune, the Denver Broncos have signed kicker Matt Prater to a four-year contract after placing their franchise tag on the six-year NFL veteran and the deal is reportedly worth $13 million dollars with a $3 million dollar signing bonus, former NFL wide receiver Johnnie Morton Jr. was sentenced Monday to two years of probation for lying to a grand jury during a criminal probe of his California business associate, and finally, current and former NFL coaches Leslie Frazier, Bill Cowher, Eric Mangini and Ben Kotwica are visiting U.S. troops in the Persian Gulf this week as part of a USO tour.
