Jeneba Tarmoh Explains, Bounty Appeal Rejected, NFL News & MLB & WNBA Results: 7/4, Vol. 178, 1st Edition

After you've gone through the hurt…after you've gone through the pain. After you've gone through the storm….after you've gone through the rain. Prayed and cried, You've prayed and cried. Prayed and cried…prayed and cried. After you've done all you can, you just stand.  Good morning and Happy 4th of July and welcome back to your Spiritual Sports Segment on Rhema Gospel Radio better than when you it last week, I’m C.E.E.J.A.Y!  Here We Go!

Jeneba Tarmoh explains why
she conceded on Sports Center
The bats were swinging in the American League in Major League Baseball as the LA Angels were crushed by the Cleveland Indians 9-5 with a homer from Shelley Duncan, the Minnesota Twins got past the Detroit Tigers 8-6 as three Twins’ homered, the Kansas City Royals lost to the Toronto Blue Jays 6-3 as Adam Lind’s homer in the 4th inning proved to be the deal sealer, the New York Yankees were smothered by the Tampa Bay Rays 7-4 with a homer from Sean Rodriguez, while the Texas Rangers were literally spanked and totally embarrassed by the Chicago White Sox 19-2, yes, you heard correctly, 19-2, the Boston Red Sox lost by a run 3-2 against the Oakland A’s as Coco Crisp’s homer helped in the cause and the Baltimore Orioles eked out a one run win over  the Seattle Mariners 5-4 as Robert Andino homered.
The WNBA only had one game scheduled last night as the Phoenix Mercury lost by one measly point against the San Antonio Silver Stars 82-81 as Danielle Adams poured in 24 points off the bench.
In sporting news, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has rejected the appeals of the four players he suspended for their role associated with the league’s bounty investigation of the New Orleans Saints.  Goodell is still providing the four players, Jonathan Vilma, Anthony Hargrove, Will Smith and Scott Fujita, with an opportunity to have their suspensions reduced if they brought fourth new information.  In his decision, Goodell stated “you elected not to testify or to make any substantive statement, written or oral, in support of your appeal; you elected not to call a single witness to support your appeal; and you elected not to introduce a single exhibit addressing the merits of your appeal. Instead, your lawyers raised a series of jurisdictional and procedural objections that generally ignore" the collective bargaining agreement”.
Instead of making an appearance in the run-off against Allyson Felix on Monday night, Jeneba Tarmoh elected to make an appearance on ESPN’s Sports Center to defend her decision to not take part in the run-off and stated in part “although I feel that I won and I got third and I deserve to be on that team and I feel that they took it away from me, it’s okay.  When I gave the position to Allyson, I gave it to her with open arms”.
For your NBA Quick Dribbles, in a very fluid situation, Orlando Magic star Dwight Howard could become a member of the Brooklyn Nets, according to league sources in major trade deal that may involve another team, free-agent guard Jason Terry is closing in on a three-year contract with the Boston Celtics, sources close to the situation confirmed Tuesday and the deal is believed to be for the full mid-level exception of $5 million annually, the Toronto Raptors have reached a verbal agreement with New York Knicks restricted free agent Landry Fields on an offer sheet, according to sources with knowledge of the deal worth $20 million dollars for a three year period, Eric Gordon and the Phoenix Suns have agreed to terms on a maximum-salaried contract worth $58 million over four years and his current team the New Orleans, according to sources, plan to match that offer, the Golden State Warriors have signed first-round pick Harrison Barnes, New York Knicks unrestricted free agent big man Jared Jeffries confirmed to ESPN New York on Tuesday that he underwent Orthokine therapy in Germany in late May to treat his sore right knee, which caused him problems all last season, and finally, the Brooklyn Nets will acquire rugged rebounder Reggie Evans from the Los Angeles Clippers in a sign-and-trade as the Nets agreed to send a future second-rounder to the Clippers in the deal and will use their $3 million dollar trade exception to make the deal work.

Serena Williams advances
Wimbledon semi-finals
The National League had eight games on the diamond yesterday as the Miami Marlins needed 10 innings and 12 runs but came up a wee bit short against the Milwaukee Brewers and their 13 runs as Aramis Ramirez launches a homerun in the 10th, the San Francisco Giants blasted the Washington Nationals 9-3 with Ian Desmond’s 14th homer, the Houston Astros lost by one run to the Pittsburgh Pirates 8-7 as Andrew McCutchen and two others delivered a homerun and the Pirates are 8 games above .500 for the first time in 20 years, the Chicago Cubs were simply befuddled by the Atlanta Braves 10-3 as old man Chipper Jones has 5 hits and 4 RBI’s, the Philadelphia Phillies was demolished by the New York Mets 11-1 as David Wright went yard, while the Colorado Rockies edged out the defending champion St. Louis Cardinals 3-2 as Tyler Colvin’s 3 run homer lifted the Rockies, the San Diego Padres hammered the Arizona Diamondbacks 9-5 as Yonder Alonso and Jesus Guzman each homered and the Cincinnati Reds was knocked off by the LA Dodgers 3-1.
The 2012 Wimbledon rolled on yesterday and so did 6th seeded Serena Williams under the roof on Centre Court as she rolled to a victory over 3rd seeded and defending champion Petra Kvitova 6-3, 7-5 to reach her eighth Wimbledon semi-final and 4th seeded Andy Murray easily dominated 16th seeded Marin Cilic 7-5, 6-2, 6-3, 10th seeded Mardy Fish needed four sets but couldn’t overcome 5th seeded Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 4-6,7-6, 6-4, 6-4 and 7th seeded David Ferrer simply overwhelmed 9th seeded Juan Martin del Porto in three sets 6-3, 6-2, 6-3.  The day didn’t come without its challenges as officials decided to open then close the retractable roof that caused the match between del Porto and Ferrer to be delayed by 40 minutes.
In sporting news, Drew Brees won a ruling over his franchise tag designation, basically prohibiting him from being franchised no more than three times.  The issue was Brees was franchised in 2005 by his former team in the San Diego Chargers and it prevents the New Orleans Saints, his current team from franchising him beyond the 2013 season. In addition, if Brees does not sign a long term deal this summer, a franchise tag in 2013 would pay him an increase raise of 144%.
For your London Summer Olympic News, USA Basketball says Lamar Odom won't try to earn an Olympic roster spot, leaving the Americans with 15 players for 12 spots and 39 year old Danielle Scott-Arruda has been included on the 12-player roster for the U.S. women's volleyball team that will play in London, making her the squad's first five-time Olympian.
For your NFL Quick Hits, Cleveland Browns defensive tackle Kiante Tripp is in a Georgia jail on a burglary charge, the Oakland Raiders will give the Oakland school system a check for more than $50,000 as part of a season-ticket drive designed to benefit the Oakland Unified School District as the Raiders donated 10 percent of the gross proceeds of new season tickets purchased and paid for from May 1 to June 30, after New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton filed for divorce from his wife of 20 years, Beth filed for divorce as well on June 26 and she is requesting that she receive primary custody of the children and exclusive rights to make other decisions, such as those concerning their medical care and education, on their behalf and she is also asking for child support and payment for medical care for the children, and finally, 72 year old Ben Davidson, the hulking defensive end who starred for the Oakland Raiders in the 1960s before becoming a famous television pitch man passed away….may God rest his soul.

Refund for the Rocket?  Now that Roger ‘The Rocket’ Clemens was found not guilty on all counts in his second perjury trial the US Government brought against and since the first trial ended in a mistrial, Clemens was seeking a refund for the monies spent on the first trial.  U. S. District Judge Reggie Walton stated “it doesn’t seem fair for Clemens to pay for the government’s mistake”, but the judge denied the refund request since the law doesn’t allow for such compensation since it wasn’t shown that the snippet of videotaped evidence that had been previously ruled inadmissible, was deliberately introduced by the prosecution.
