Steve Nash traded to the LA Lakers! |
Major League Baseball, once revered as the great American past time, celebrated the 4th of July with a plethora of games starting with the American League with several early games as the New York Yankees sneaked past the Tampa Bay Rays by one run 4-3 as Robinson Cano hit a 2 run single during a 3 run 8th inning to help secure the win, the LA Angels was literally spanked by the Cleveland Indians 12-3 as Casey Kotchman belted a homer and drove in 3 RBI’s, the Boston Red Sox lost by one run to the Oakland A’s 3-2 as David ‘Big Papi’ belted his 400th career homerun, the Baltimore Orioles got past the Seattle Mariners 4-2 as Chris Tillman struck out 7 batters in his major debut aided by Adam Jones’ 20th homer of the season, while the Texas Rangers need 10 innings but came up a wee bit short against the Chicago White Sox 5-4 as Kevin Youkilis walk off single in the 10th inning sealed the deal, the Kansas City Royals was beat up by the Toronto Blue Jays 4-1as Carlos Villanueva pitched 6 scoreless innings with 7 strikeouts and the Minnesota Twins were walloped by the Detroit Tigers 5-1 as Miguel Cabrera belted not one, but two homeruns.
For your NBA Quick Dribbles, Deron Williams had decided to re-sign with the Brooklyn Nets for five years and $98 million dollars, free agent Jason Terry has officially verbally committed to joining the Boston Celtics for their full mid-level exception worth $5 million dollars annually for three years, the Indiana Pacers and starting point guard George Hill agreed to a five-year deal, the Phoenix Suns have reached a verbal commitment with free-agent forward Michael Beasley on a three-year deal worth $18 million, the Houston Rockets plan to offer a contract to New York Knicks guard Jeremy Lin on Wednesday, according to a report by The New York Post, the Philadelphia 76ers and center Spencer Hawes have agreed to a two-year, $13.1 million extension, and finally, the Oklahoma City Thunder have agreed to a two-year deal with former #2 overall pick Hasheem Thabeet.
And finally, even though this is not sporting news, it always gets major play. Joey Chestnut tied his own world record devouring 68 hot dogs in 10 minutes to capture his sixth consecutive Nathan's Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest on Wednesday afternoon on Brooklyn's Coney Island and proudly took home a check for $10,000 dollars for his eating efforts. I wonder if he pays taxes on that amount in hot dollar dogs….huh!?
