Steve Nash to The Lakers, Joey Chesnut Wins, AL-MLB Scores & NBA News: 7/5, Vol. 179, 1st Edition

I've gotta clean up what I messed up; I'm starting my life over again! I made up my mind I ain't lying no more, ‘cause a liar and a cheater can't make it through the door!  Good morning and welcome back to your Spiritual Sports Segment on Rhema Gospel Radio better than when you it last week, I’m C.E.E.J.A.Y!  Le' Go!

Steve Nash traded to the LA Lakers!
In breaking NBA news that I announced on my Twitter page @ceejaysports yesterday, rumors of Steve Nash going to the Toronto Raptors, the New York Knicks, back with the Dallas Mavericks and any other team was squashed as the 2 time NBA MVP negotiated a sign-and-trade deal with the Phoenix Suns and their divisional rival, the LA Lakers.  Nash will be paired with Kobe Bryant, who was a determining force to land the player who was second in assist last season and Nash left money on the table to sign with the Lakers for three years and north of $25 million dollars; and a main cog for Nash was the close proximity of his kids in Phoenix and an opportunity to win a championship.  In return, the Suns will receive four draft picks, 1st rounder’s in 2013 and 2015 and 2nd rounder’s in 2013 and 2014.  The Lakers were able to use the trade exception that was created by dealing Lamar Odom to the Dallas Mavericks last December.   Nash, who requested the trade with the Suns brass stated “I couldn't be more grateful to the organization and Robert in particular. I know how hard this was for him and that fact that he was able to help me and my family in this way ... it means a lot and says a lot about his character. I will never forget this gesture. Above and beyond”.

Major League Baseball, once revered as the great American past time, celebrated the 4th of July with a plethora of games starting with the American League with several early games as the New York Yankees sneaked past the Tampa Bay Rays by one run 4-3 as Robinson Cano hit a 2 run single during a 3 run 8th inning to help secure the win, the LA Angels was literally spanked by the Cleveland Indians 12-3 as Casey Kotchman belted a homer and drove in 3 RBI’s, the Boston Red Sox lost by one run to the Oakland A’s 3-2 as David ‘Big Papi’ belted his 400th career homerun, the Baltimore Orioles got past the Seattle Mariners 4-2 as Chris Tillman struck out 7 batters in his major debut aided by Adam Jones’ 20th homer of the season, while the Texas Rangers need 10 innings but came up a wee bit short against the Chicago White Sox 5-4 as Kevin Youkilis walk off single in the 10th inning sealed the deal, the Kansas City Royals was beat up by the Toronto Blue Jays 4-1as Carlos Villanueva pitched 6 scoreless innings with 7 strikeouts and the Minnesota Twins were walloped by the Detroit Tigers 5-1 as Miguel Cabrera belted not one, but two homeruns.
For your NBA Quick Dribbles, Deron Williams had decided to re-sign with the Brooklyn Nets for five years and $98 million dollars, free agent Jason Terry has officially verbally committed to joining the Boston Celtics for their full mid-level exception worth $5 million dollars annually for three years, the Indiana Pacers and starting point guard George Hill agreed to a five-year deal, the Phoenix Suns have reached a verbal commitment with free-agent forward Michael Beasley on a three-year deal worth $18 million, the Houston Rockets plan to offer a contract to New York Knicks guard Jeremy Lin on Wednesday, according to a report by The New York Post, the Philadelphia 76ers and center Spencer Hawes have agreed to a two-year, $13.1 million extension, and finally, the Oklahoma City Thunder have agreed to a two-year deal with former #2 overall pick Hasheem Thabeet.
And finally, even though this is not sporting news, it always gets major play. Joey Chestnut tied his own world record devouring 68 hot dogs in 10 minutes to capture his sixth consecutive Nathan's Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest on Wednesday afternoon on Brooklyn's Coney Island and proudly took home a check for $10,000 dollars for his eating efforts.  I wonder if he pays taxes on that amount in hot dollar dogs….huh!?
