Major League Baseball were swinging their bats in Major League Baseball as the American League has six games in action last night as the LA Angels were outlasted by the Detroit Tigers 8-6 as Brennan Boesch broke the tie in the 7th with a homerun, the Toronto Blue Jays were defeated by the New York Yankees 6-3 as Raul Ibanez touched them all with a Grand Slam, the Chicago White Sox were blasted by the Boston Red Sox 5-1 with a homer from Adrian Gonzalez, while the Cleveland Indians eked out a one run win over the Tampa Bay Rays 3-2, the Seattle Mariners crushed the Kansas City Royals 9-4 as Casper Wells homered and the Baltimore Orioles were literally spanked and plain ole embarrassed by the Minnesota Twins 19-7….and no folks, this was not a football game as Endy Chavez and Mark Reynolds went yard.
The men’s team continued their tune-up tour prior to the London Olympics as they took on Brazil and Brazil gave them a run a for their money and one time actually lead, but Team USA said hold up wait a minute and turned up the defensive intensity in the 2nd quarter and LeBron James dominated with 30 points to get the win 80-69 as President Barack Obama looked on.
The women finally took to the court as they played their exhibition game against Brazil and the ladies on the Brazil unlike their brothers was no match as the United States walloped Brazil 99-67 with 21 points from Lindsay Whalen.

Mayo have agreed to a multiyear deal, according to a source with knowledge of the situation, the Toronto Raptors, in a deal designed to create some additional salary-cap space, traded forward James Johnson to the Sacramento Kings for a second-round draft pick in 2014, speaking of the Kings, they have signed point guard Aaron Brooks and to make room for Brooks, they waived center Hassan Whiteside on Monday, the Chicago Bulls' trade of forward Kyle Korver to the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for a trade exception and cash considerations became official on Monday, the Phoenix Suns have signed first-round draft pick Kendall Marshall to a rookie contract, the Brooklyn Nets have signed 17 year veteran swingman Jerry Stackhouse to a one year deal reportedly worth $1.3 million dollars, Latvia's state prosecutor has opened a criminal case against Golden State Warriors center Andris Biedrins for alleged income tax evasion and if Biedrins is found guilty he could face a fine of $70,000 or a maximum five-year prison sentence, the Atlanta Hawks have requested waivers on guard Jordan Farmar, one of five players acquired from the Brooklyn Nets in the deal for All-Star Joe Johnson, Blake Griffin will underwent arthroscopic surgery yesterday to repair the medial meniscus tear of his left knee that he suffered during practice with the U.S. national team in Las Vegas, and finally, Cleveland Cavaliers guard Kyrie Irving will have surgery Wednesday to fix the hand he broke slapping a padded wall during a Summer League practice, well Irving’s hand injury was more natural than Amare’s Fire Hand injury….huh?!

Just like their American League counterpart, the National League also had six on tap last night as the Arizona Diamondbacks got past the Cincinnati Reds 5-3 with a homerun from Miguel Montero, the Washington Nationals lost to the Miami Marlins 5-3 with help of Hanley Rameriz’s homer, the defending champion St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Milwaukee Brewers 3-2 as the Cardinals rallied in the 9th, while the Pittsburgh Pirates lost by a run to the Colorado Rockies 5-4, the Houston Astros SHUT OUT the San Diego Padres 2-0 and the Philadelphia Phillies knocked off the LA Dodgers 3-2 as Ryan Howard made his presence felt with a homerun.
With plenty of disagreements over the past several months, the NFL and the NFL Player’s Association did agree on something, the NFL Legacy Fund.  The Legacy Fund provides benefits to widows and other survivors of players from before 1993 and the agreement calls for an extended package worth $15.2 million dollars.  Eligible beneficiaries will receive an increased amount than what they were receiving retroactive to August 1, 2011 and those checks will arrive within the next two weeks and start receiving monthly benefits starting on August 1.  Both parties agreed that the NFL will pay 51% and the NFLPA will pay 49%.

For your NFL Quick Hits, the Baltimore Ravens signed Ray Rice to a new five-year contract Monday worth roughly $40 million dollars, the Chicago Bears have signed running back Matt Forte to a four-year contract which a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter is worth roughly $32 million and the deal contains more than $18 million dollars in guarantees, Jacksonville Jaguars kicker Josh Scobee has signed a four-year contract worth between $13.8 million and $14.2 million, making him one of the NFL's highest-paid kickers, after turning himself in, Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant was arrested Monday on a misdemeanor domestic violence charge against a family member in DeSoto TX police confirmed, the California Highway Patrol says Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch was arrested in the Oakland area for investigation of DUI, and finally, police say the arrest of Denver Broncos defensive end Elvis Dumervil was preceded by a road-rage incident in which Dumervil and another man allegedly lifted their shirts and displayed firearms to people in another vehicle.  Dude what were you thinking….huh?!

As schools continue to shuffle between collegiate conferences, Syracuse University is the latest school to bolt for another conference as they will leave the Big East to align forces with other schools in the Atlantic Coast Conference effective July1, 2013.  The Orange will be obligated to pay an exit fee of $7.5 million dollars, which is $2.5 million more than specified in the conference bylaws.
