Olympics Feat. Nathan Adrian, Allison Schmitt & Total Medal Count & More: 8/2, Vol. 199, 1st Edition

Flow to you…let the river of my worship flow to you.  Lord I pray in all I do, let the river of my worship flow to you!  Good morning and welcome back to Spiritual Sports Segment on Rhema Gospel Radio better than when you it yesterday, I’m C.E.E.J.A.Y!  Here We Go!

The ladies golden celebration
in the Women’s 4x200 Freestyle

The 2012 Olympics rolled on as the United States experienced a great day in the world of swimming as Nathan Adrian got the best of favorite James ‘The Missile’ Magussen of Australia by one-hundredth of a second, the slightest margin possible to win the Men’s 100m Freestyle and Rebecca Soni set a new world record during the qualifying semifinals of the 200m Breaststroke with a time of 2 minutes and 20 seconds and basically chipped off 12 seconds off the previous mark.  Allison Schmitt was back on the medal stand as she anchored the final leg in the Women’s 4x200 Freestyle to win gold along with Missy Franklin, Dana Vollmer and Shannon Vreeland.
It was a tough night for the men in gymnastics, but Danell Leyva managed to make it through and earn a bronze medal for his efforts and Kristin Armstrong was strong enough to earn a gold medal in Women’s Individual Time Trial and as Serena Williams advanced to reach the quarterfinals in tennis, her sister Venus was ousted in single competition.  But the ladies in basketball continued their dominance as they walloped Turkey 89-58 with 18 points from Angel McCoughtry.
So as more medals were won during another day of competition, China is now in the lead with a total of 30 medals comprising of 17 gold, 9 silver and 4 bronze and the United States is one behind in China with 29 total medals consisting of 12 gold, 8 silver and 9 bronze while Japan is third with 17 total medals.
For your 2012 London Olympic News, Larisa Latynina, the gymnast who competed for the Soviet Union in the 1956, 1960 and 1964 Olympics, whose career record for most Olympic medals was broken by Michael Phelps says she doesn't mind that the American swimmer has surpassed her mark, well I guess she really doesn’t have a choice now does she?  Nonetheless comma I digress as Harrison Dillard, who is 89, the oldest 100-meter Olympic champion was back in London for the games, only this time as a celebrated athlete, not a scrawny kid from Cleveland who botched the hurdles only to win the gold in 1948, a double-decker bus carrying journalists at the London Olympics hit and killed a bicyclist Wednesday night, Lauren Jackson became the all-time leading scorer in Olympic women's basketball history with 18 points in Australia's 67-61 victory over Brazil on Wednesday to overtake Lisa Leslie for the honor, and finally, eight badminton players at the London Olympics were kicked out of competition Wednesday for trying to lose purpose to secure a more favorable position in the next phase of the event, a display that drew outrage from fans and organizers who said the women had violated the most sacred stage in sports.  You don’t go to the Olympics to try to lose….seriously.  Come on man or should I say come on woman!

Felix Jones of the Dallas Cowboys
finally passes his conditioning test....he looks
tired doesn't he?!
There were several afternoon games in the American & National League alike in Major League Baseball with a total of fifteen games on the diamond starting with AL as the Baltimore Orioles were literally spanked by the New York Yankees 12-3 as Curtis Granderson belted his 29th homer, the Chicago White Sox eked out a one run win against the Minnesota Twins 3-2 with 8 strikeouts from Jake Peavy, the Tampa Bay Rays knocked off the Oakland A’s 4-1 with Carlos Pena going yard, the Detroit Tigers outlasted the Boston Red Sox 7-5 as 3 Tigers launch homeruns, while the LA Angels scored 10 runs, but the Texas Rangers did one better with 11 runs as  the Rangers rally from 3 down in 10th, the Cleveland Indians was defeated by the Kansas City Royals 5-2 and the Toronto Blue Jays lost to the Seattle Mariners 5-3 as the Marines won the 7th consecutive game.

For your NBA Quick Dribbles, Boston Celtics coach Doc Rivers said he thought his decision-making was the primary reason why guard Ray Allen chose to sign with the Miami Heat over staying in Boston, not the veteran's deteriorating relationship with Rajon Rondo and the Phoenix Suns have signed forward P.J. Tucker to a two-year contract after an 3 impressive performance in the Las Vegas Summer League.
For your NFL Quick Hits, Ben Roethlisberger revealed he has a "little torn rotator cuff" in an interview Wednesday with the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, but the Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback seemed more concerned about the absence of holdout receiver Mike Wallace than his injury,  as the Hall of Fame Game approaches on Sunday and there is no end in sight to the labor dispute between the NFL and its officials, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell says he is comfortable with the idea of using replacement officials in preseason games, after failing the conditioning test on Monday, Felix Jones, Brodney Pool and Andre Holmes have passed the Dallas Cowboys' conditioning test, San Diego Chargers running back Ryan Mathews is listed as "day to day" after getting banged up in a car accident in which he lost control of his car and hit another car.

Daniel Rodriguez is a testament
              that dreams do come true
Daniel Rodriguez dreamed about playing college football after his playing days at Brooke Point High in Stafford, VA, but his parents’ divorce and ultimately his father’s passing four days after his graduation, derailed him from those dreams.  In order to escape, he enlisted into the Army.  After two tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, shrapnel in his body, an honorable discharge in 2010 and a promise to an Army brother-at-arms to pursue his dream, he began grueling workout that caught the eye of several colleges, especially Dabo Swiney, coach of the Clemson Tigers.  Earlier this week, Rodriguez found out he had been cleared by the NCAA and the Atlantic Coast Conference to join Clemson's football team as a walk-on receiver.  Congratulations Daniel and may God continue to Bless you.

Oklahoma center senior Ben Habern's career is over as he won't return to the team after offseason neck surgery that fused together two vertebrae, Penn State freshman defensive lineman Jamil Pollard will finish summer school at Penn State next Tuesday and then transfer to Rutgers, his high school coach said Wednesday, Jerry Sandusky is distraught over the NCAA penalties issued to Penn State's football program for the school's handling of his child sexual abuse scandal and maintains his innocence as he awaits sentencing, his defense lawyer said Wednesday…..well, he should be distraught of his hideous actions, Alabama will build a $9 million, two-story training facility for athletes that will encompass 34,495-square-feet building that’s expected to be completed by January and the Crimson Tide Foundation will pay for $965,317 of the project with the remaining $8.1 million will be funded by future revenue bonds, Peter Laviolette and the Philadelphia Flyers agreed Wednesday to a two-year contract extension that will take him through the 2014-15 season, the NHL and NHLPA split into small group meetings during Day 2 of labor talks this week to discuss players' pensions and benefits, as well as health and safety issues, although a counter-proposal from the NHLPA does not appear imminent because of the information requests to the league that are still pending, the Los Angeles Dodgers designated veteran Bobby Abreu for assignment Wednesday to make room on their roster for newly acquired outfielder Shane Victorino, and finally, former Oakland Athletics slugger Jose Canseco has filed for bankruptcy protection in Nevada and listed less than $21,000 in assets and almost $1.7 million in liabilities, including more than $500,000 owed to the Internal Revenue Service….that’s some serious debt….huh?!
