Olympics w/ Aly Raisman, Dawn Harper, Medal Count & Taoufik Makhloufi: 8/8, Vol. 203, 1st Edition

After Béla Károlyi was posturing to challenge the balance beam score in US captain gymnast Aly Raisman’s performance, she won bronze in tie break over Catalina Ponor and she was also flawless on the floor exercise which provided her with her 2nd gold medal.
They were off and running in Track & Field in the Women’s 100m Hurdles as Sally Pearson of Australia wasn’t going to be denied as she sprinted to gold, but the United States faired very well as Dawn Harper was behind Pearson by two one-hundredths of a second to claim silver and Kellie Wells is bringing home the bronze and Lolo Jones who ran a clean, smooth race, finished 4th out of medal contention. 
It will be an all American showdown in the beach volleyball as April Ross and Jennifer Kessy will face off against two time defending champions Kerri Walsh Jennings and Misty May Treanor and after the US women’s soccer team outlasted Canada on Monday, the US women’s basketball team demolished Canada 91-48 and the United States forced Canada into 26 turnovers to reach the semifinals.
The total medal count continues to heat up as China has increased its lead over the United States as China now has 34 gold, 21 silver and 18 bronze for a total count of 73, while the United States gold count is 30, silver count is 19 and bronze count is 21 for a total of 70 and the host country Great Britain is back in third place with 48 after being replaced Russia for one day.

Major League Baseball had a full slate of games last night starting in the American League as the New York Yankees lost for the 2nd night in a row to the Detroit Tigers 6-5 with a homer from Miguel Cabrera, the Seattle Mariners needed 14 innings but still lost to the Baltimore Orioles 8-7 as the Orioles won their 12th straight extra innings game, the Minnesota Twins got past the Cleveland Indians 7-5 as the Twins rallied and gave the Indians their 11th consecutive loss, the Texas Rangers defeated the Boston Red Sox 6-3 as Ryan Dempster notched his 1st win, while the Toronto Blue Jays lost 4-1 to the Tampa Bay Rays as Evan Longoria returned with an RBI, the Kansas City Royals knocked off the Chicago White Sox 5-2 as Billy Butler belted the ball out of the ballpark….alliteration, I love it and the LA Angels was literally spanked by the Oakland A’s 10-4 as 4 A’s launched homeruns.
The National League had eight games on the diamond as the Atlanta Braves were SHUT OUT by the Philadelphia Phillies 3-0 as Cole Hamels pitched a complete game with 6 strike outs, the Arizona Diamondback manhandled the Pittsburgh Pirates 10-4 as Chris Johnson launched 2 homeruns, the Miami Marlins got past the New York Mets 4-2 with the help of Jose Reyes’ 25th consecutive hit, the Washington Nationals eked out a one run win against the Houston Astros 3-2 in 12 innings as Danny Espinosa drove in all 3 Nationals’ runs, the Cincinnati Reds lost to the Milwaukee Brewers 3-1 as Aramis Rameriz went yard, while the San Francisco Giants outlasted the defending champion St. Louis Cardinals 4-2 with the 18th homer from Buster Posey, the Chicago Cubs was pasted by the San Diego Padres 7-4 as Carlos Quentin hits his 12th homerun and the Colorado Rockies defeated the LA Dodgers 3-1.
