NFL Scores & Shannon Eastin, NBA News & AL-NL MLB Scores: 8/10, Vol. 205, 2nd Edition

When the darkness appears and the night draws near, and the day is past and gone; at the river I stand, guide my feet, take my hand precious Lord & lead me home!  Welcome back to your Spiritual Sports Segment on Rhema Gospel, I’m C.E.E.J.A.Y.!

Shannon Eastin becomes
1st female to referee
an NFL game
The Boys of Summer had a lighter schedule in Major League Baseball as the American League had only four games on the diamond starting with the New York Yankees squeezed past the Detroit Tigers by one run 4-3 as Eric Chavez and Mark Teixeira belted back-to-back homers, the Toronto Blue Jays were blasted by the Tampa Bay Rays 7-1 as Jeff Keppinger and Evan Longoria each drove in 3 RBI’s, the Boston Red Sox  lost to the Cleveland Indians 5-3 and the Kansas City Royals bombarded the Baltimore Orioles 8-2 as Billy Butler belted the ball beyond the ballpark…..I love alliteration.
The National League were swinging their bats with only one more game on the slate than their AL counterpart with five as the Miami Marlins were crushed by the New York Mets 6-1 as R. A. Dickey notches his 15th win, the San Francisco Giants was defeated by the  defending champion St. Louis Cardinals 3-1 with a homer from Carlos Beltran, the Arizona Diamondbacks cruised to victory against the Pittsburgh Pirates 6-3 with 2 homers by Jason Kubel, while the Cincinnati Reds was defeated by the Chicago Cubs 5-3 as Alfonso Soriano launched his 20th homer and the Washington Nationals SHUT OUT and lambasted the Houston Astros 5-0 as Jordan Zimmerman struck out 11 batters and Michael Morse went yard twice.
It was only pre-season, but it was still football as the National Football League played a couple few games last night as the Robert Griffin, III aka RG3 debut last night with his Washington Redskins as they got the 7-6 win over the Buffalo Bills as he passed for 70 yards along with a touchdown, the other quarterback making his debut, but with a different team was Payton Manning with his Denver Broncos toppling the Chicago Bears 31-3 with 44 yards passing with an interception, the Baltimore Ravens knocked off the Atlanta Falcons 31-17 as Matt Painter threw 3 TD’s, the New Orleans Saints lost to the New England Patriots 7-6, while the Philadelphia Eagles got past the Pittsburgh Steelers 24-23 but with a thumb injury to Michael Vick and the Green Bay Packers lost to the San Diego Chargers 21-13.
The PGA Championship putted off yesterday at Kiawah Island Resort as Carl Pettersson sits atop of the leaderboard with a 6 under par and there are a host of players tied for 2nd with a 5 under par and Tiger Woods joins a plethora of golfers that are 3 back.
For your NBA Quick Dribbles, the Milwaukee Bucks have signed free-agent center Joel Przybilla, maintaining an offseason push to beef up their frontcourt, Minnesota Timberwolves second-round draft pick Robbie Hummel says he will play in Europe rather than the NBA next season and finally, the Washington Wizards hired former NBA player and coach Jerry Sichting as an assistant coach on Thursday.
For your NFL Quick Hits, serving as the line judge for a seven-man crew working a preseason game between the Green Bay Packers and San Diego Chargers, Shannon Eastin has become the first woman to officiate an NFL game…..congratulations Shannon from breaking the gender barrier.  Maurice Jones-Drew is no closer to returning to the Jacksonville Jaguars, and the running back's holdout is expected to last until the end of the month, and potentially into September, and finally, Cleveland Browns rookie Trent Richardson has had routine arthroscopic surgery on his left knee yesterday.

Olympics w/ Usain Bolt, NBA w/ Dwight Howard, Claressa Shields & Women's Soccer: 8/10, Vol. 205, 1st Edition

You see, my life was spinning out of control…the fact that I'm still alive today, is nothing shy of a miracle because God blocked it, He wouldn't let me fall and He wouldn't let it be so!  Good morning and welcome back to Spiritual Sports Segment on Rhema on Gospel Radio better than when you it yesterday, I’m C.E.E.J.A.Y!  Let’s Get It Started!

The Jamaican Trio!  Usain Bolt,
             Yohan Blake & Warren
          Weir dominate 200m
The 2012 Olympics witnessed more amazing games yesterday starting with the first man to win back-to-back gold medals in the 200m as Usain Bolt bolted off to a sensational start and eventually cruised across the finish line in 19.32 seconds, while his fellow countrymen Yohan Blake and Warren Weir finished 2nd and 3rd to get the Jamaican sweep.  Staying with Track and Field, Americans Christian Taylor is bringing home the gold in the triple jump while teammate Will Claye will bring home silver and Ashton Eaton finished his decathlon on the track to notch a gold medal and coming in 2nd with a silver medal is his teammate Trey Hardee as they finish 1-2 for the first time since 1956 for the US.
It was Redemption Day for Team USA in women’s soccer as the United States won their 3rd consecutive Olympic gold medal after beating Japan 2-1 in a rematch from last year’s World Cup final.
Claressa Shields is golden
              in women's boxing
She is only 17 but Claressa Shields not only made history but handled herself with style of a champion as Shields became the first female boxer to win gold at the Olympics in the middleweight class as she easily outpointed Irishwoman Katie Taylor 19-12.
Other medal winners yesterday was Terrence Jennings capturing the bronze in Taekwondo, US women’s capturing gold in water polo for the first time, and while the women for Team USA in basketball avoided a scare against Australia as they won by only 13 points to advance to the gold medal round.
With another grand day at the 2012 London Olympics, the total medal count gap is widening as the United States now has 39 gold, 25 silver and 26 bronze for a total of 90 medals, while now China has 37 gold, 24 silver and 19 bronze comprising of 80 medals and Russia increase its total to 56 for third place.
For your London Olympic News, Manteo Mitchell, the American sprinter had 200 meters to go in the first leg of the 4x400-meter relay preliminaries Thursday when he heard his leg snap, in which he broke but kept running to help his American team qualify, double amputee Oscar Pistorius and his South African teammates are moving on to the 4x400-meter relay final at the Olympics without even finishing their heat since they won their appeal after a crash, Usain Bolt took a momentary break from basking in his historic Olympic sprinting double to fiercely criticize former U.S. athlete Carl Lewis after Lewis made comments about the drug testing in Jamaica, American Track and Field runner Jeremy Wariner tore his left hamstring and will miss the final of the 4x400-meter relay Saturday, the IOC has opened an investigation into the Italian race walker expelled from the London Games for doping and could retest the 2008 gold medalist's samples from Beijing, prosecutors in the German city of Rostock have launched a criminal investigation regarding the boyfriend of Olympic rower Nadja Drygalla over his alleged involvement in a far-right attack, and finally, the Belgian Olympic Committee says it has told cyclist Gijs van Hoecke to leave the Olympics after photos appeared of him looking drunk and unable to walk while leaving a London nightclub.
Dwight Howard searching for
             gold in LA
In breaking news last night in the National Basketball Association, Orlando Magic superstar center Dwight Howard is finally getting his wish and leaving Orlando to hopefully greener or should I say golden pastures in the Los Angeles.  In order to facilitate the deal, it required four teams to participate as Howard goes to the Lakers and the Lakers send their All Star center Andrew Bynum and the Magic send Jason Richardson to the Philadelphia 76er’s, while the Denver Nuggets will receive Andre Iguodala from the 76er’s and the Magic will acquire from the Nuggets Aaron Afflalo, Al Harrington, Nikola Vucevic and they will also receive one protected future first round draft pick from each of the three teams.  In addition, the Lakers did not have to give up Pau Gasol, who is a very integral piece to the organization and the Lakers franchise player Kobe Bryant was simply ecstatic.
