NFL Kick Off, US Open & AL MLB Scores & NBA Quick Dribbles: 9/6, Vol. 223, 1st Edition

NFL season kicked off!
You’ve been waiting and debating for all so long, ahhhhh the NFL season is here and it’s time to get it on!  The 2012 National Football League season kicked off last night with one of the oldest rivalry in the game as the Dallas Cowboys traveled to face off against the defending Super Bowl champs in the New York Giants and the first half started off slow both team until Dallas QB Tomy Romo hooked up for a TD with Kevin Olgetree before half-time as they took the 7-3 lead and in the 2nd half, both offenses came to life, especially for Romo who went on to toss 3 TD’s to go along with 307 blistering yards and running back DeMarco Murray helped open up the passing game with 131 ground pounding yards as the Cowboys showed they were for real as they notch the win for the first game of season 24-17.
The 2012 US Open kept churning yesterday as Andy Roddick’s professional tennis career has come to an end as he tried to hold off 7th seeded Juan Martin de Potro in 4 sets, but didn’t have enough in tank as he lost the match 6-7, 7-6, 6-2, 6-4, #1 seed Roger Federer was UPSET by 6th seeded Tomas Berdych in 4 sets 6-7, 4-6, 6-3, 3-6, 8th seeded Janko Tipsarevic got past 19th seeded Philipp Kohlschreiber in straight sets 6-3, 7-6, 6-2, while 2nd seeded Novak Djokovic cruised in straight sets over 18th seeded Stanislas Wawinka 6-4, 6-1, 3-1 as Wawinka retired and 3rd seeded Andy Murray is will continue to play for a major win as he needed 4 sets to notch the win over 12th seeded Marin Cilic 3-6, 7-6, 6-2, 6-0.
And the ladies played through more quarterfinals as #3 seed Maria Sharapova needed 3 sets to knock off 11th seeded Marion Bartoli 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, 10th seeded Sara Errani won in straight sets 6-2, 6-4 against 20th seeded Roberta Vinci and 4th seeded Serena Williams had not problems with 12th seeded Ana Ivanovic with a crushing win of 6-1, 6-3.
Major League Baseball were running the bases last night as the American League had seven games on tap as the Minnesota Twins blasted the Chicago White Sox 6-2 with 2 homeruns from Alex Rios, the LA Angels dominated the Oakland A’s 7-1, the Cleveland Indians were walloped by the Detroit Tigers also with a score of 7-1 as Miguel Cabrera and Prince Fielder both launched homeruns, the Baltimore Orioles lost 6-4 to the Toronto Blue Jays with a homer from Rajal Davis, while the New York Yankees got past the Tampa Bay Rays 6-4 behind Russell Martin’s 15th homer, the Texas Rangers won by run 7-6 over the Kansas City Royals as Adrian Beltre’s 3 run homer help seal the deal and the Boston Red Sox lost 2-1 to the Seattle Mariners.

The National League had eight games swinging their bats in the Major League Baseball as the Philadelphia Phillies clobbered the Cincinnati Reds 6-2 as Chase Utley belted his 10th homer, the New York Mets hammered the defending champs St. Louis Cardinals also with a score of 6-2 as R. A. Dickey became the 1st MLB pitcher to notch 18 wins, the Chicago Cubs were outmuscled by the Washington Nationals 9-1 with count ‘em 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 homeruns by the Nationals, the Houston Astros was dominated by the Pittsburgh Pirates 6-3, the Colorado Rockies SHUT OUT  the Atlanta Braves 1-0, while the Milwaukee Brewers powered past the Miami Marlins 8-5 with 2 homers for Rickie Weeks for a total of 16 for the seasons, the San Diego Padres eked out the one run win against the LA Dodgers 4-3 and the Arizona Diamondbacks pounded the San Francisco Giants 6-2.
The Winsome Women of the WNBA, I love alliteration, were ballin’ last night as the Phoenix Mercury demolished and literally spanked by the New York Liberty 87-59 with 17 points from Plenette Pierson and Indiana Fever was knocked off by the Atlanta Dream 71-64 with 20 points from Lindsay Harding and a renewed Angel McCoughtry’s 15 points off the bench.
For your NFL Quick Hits,  a study of former NFL players finds they were unusually prone to dying from degenerative brain disease, the latest indication that repeated blows to the head may cause serious trouble later on, former Cleveland Browns owner Art Modell, at the age of 87, is in a Baltimore-area hospital and his condition is worsening, WKYC-TV in Cleveland reported Wednesday night, and finally, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell held an hour long chat session with fans from all 32 teams and this is what they want:
A.        want cheaper tickets for preseason games
B.        an end to blackouts.
C.        want to be online at the game
D.        fans up North are looking for more cold-weather Super Bowls
E.         perhaps maybe even a chance to host the draft, as they want the draft to be move around to different locations
