In sporting news, some 42 years later and some $240 million dollars richer, former American Basketball Association owners Ozzie and Dan Silna have been the beneficiaries of the growth of the National Basketball Association, particularly in dealing with TV revenue.  In 1976, Ozzie and Dan agreed to fold their team so the NBA can move forward with a merger with the ABA and the Indiana Pacers, the now Brooklyn Nets, Denver Nuggets and the San Antonio Spurs agreed to pay the pair a portion of the TV revenue earned starting in 1980, as they were the teams that survived the merger.  However, the brothers think they have gotten the short end of the stick since they feel the league has omitted them from international broadcasts and cable packages and have asked a judge to re-open the anti-trust case.
For your NFL Quick Hits, Adrian Peterson hasn't wavered at all summer and says he is ready to play for Minnesota in the season opener, but the decision is out of his hands, three players fighting suspensions from the NFL's bounty investigation have told a federal judge they are comfortable with their representation by union lawyers and see no potential conflict of interest in the arrangement, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said he was pleased with Wednesday night's season opener, the first time the league has used replacement referees in a regular-season game since the first week of the 2001 season, a 3rd grader was sent home to change since he wore Payton Manning’s #18 jersey since as the number 18 is associated with a local gang, and finally, the Jets have the highest average, non-premium ticket price in the league at $117.94, according to Team Marketing Report's Fan Cost Index, which was released Thursday afternoon, while the New England Patriots were 2nd at .10 cents lower, the defending champion New York Giants were 3rd at $111.69, the Chicago Bears top off at $110.91 and the Dallas Cowboys, the $2 billion team, was 5th at $110.70.
