Replacement refs are NOT on same page in the Green Bay Packers vs the Seattle Seahawks |
Monday Night Football
provided probably the most memorable, controversy filled game in its 43 year
history when the Green Bay Packers were seeking their first road win of the
season when they traveled to face off against the Seattle Seahawks, but since
Aaron Rogers of the Packers was sacked 8 times in the 1st half, it
would be an uphill battle to get that win.
With that, the Seahawks went to the locker room with a 7-0 halftime lead
and in the 3rd quarter, the Packers offense still sputtered
as they managed 2 field goals to close the gap to 7-6 going into the 4th
quarter. And in the 4th quarter,
things get a little
interesting as Russell Wilson of
the Seahawks rolled out on 4th and 10, no time outs and the clock
ticking towards zero, threw in essence a hail Mary to the end-zone and Golden
Tate of the Seahawks and M. D. Jennings of the Packers simultaneously caught
the ball as both players crashed landed in the end-zone. With no time on clock and two replacement
refs standing basically of either end of both players as each one tried to
wrestle the ball from one another, the refs looked at each other and one ref
indicated a catch for the defense and the other indicated touchdown. Only after reviewing the play, it was
announced the ruling on the field stands, and the Packers have to searched for
their helmets to trout back onto the field and line up as mannequins for the
extra point, as the Seahawks won the game 14-12. Coming off a weekend in which the replacement
refs were heavily criticized, last night’s will be the pinnacle of that
criticism since it decided a game and it was the first time in 664 Monday Night
Football games in which a game winning touchdown scored in the 4th quarter
as time expired.
