BCS Rankings Week 8, Olympics w/ Lance Armstrong, Amare Stoudemire & John Farrell News: 10/22, Vol. 253, 3rd Edt'n

Now that Week 8 is complete in college football, here are the BCS Rankings as a little shuffling has taken place however Alabama remains in the Kings Chair at #1 and Florida still holds down the 2nd spot, but Kansas State moved up one spot to #3, while Oregon took Kansas State’s previous ranking by dropping from the 3rd to the 4th spot, Norte Dame and LSU hold on to #5 and #6, while Oregon State and Oklahoma each moved up on #7 and #8 respectfully, USC with a record setting day by Matt Barkley and his receiver Robert Woods moved from 10th to 9th and Georgia cracked the top ten raising up from the 11th spot.

            The Women’s National Basketball Association had Game 4 of the Finals as the Indiana Fever were looking to close out the Minnesota Lynx and capture their 1st championship in franchise history and longtime veteran Tamika Catchings was like Dottie Peoples and she Showed Up and Showed Out with a game high of 25 points, 8 dimes, 4 boards and added 3 blocks and won her first WNBA championship and MVP as the Fever got past the former defending champs Lynx 87-78.

The NFL had games a plenty on Sunday as I run down Round 1 of your NFL Scores starting with Tennessee Titans getting the one point win over the Buffalo Bills 35-34 as Chris Johnson made a rare appearance this season with 195 breaking tackles yards and a 2 TD’s, the Indianapolis Colts got past the Cleveland Browns 17-13 as Andrew Luck passed for 186 yards and amassed 2 TD’s on the ground, the Green Bay Packers put together back-to-back wins as they cruised past the St. Louis Rams 30-20 as Aaron Rodgers continues to light up the field with 342 yards and not one, not two, but three TD’s, the Minnesota Vikings are off to surprising great start as they knock off the Arizona Cardinals 21-14 as Adrian Peterson gets stronger as the season goes on after his ACL surgery and rushed for 153 ground pounding yards and a score, while the Washington Redskins came up short against the New York ‘Football’ Giants 27-23 with Victor Cruz’s 131 receiving yards and a score and Eli Manning wasn’t too shabby as he passed for 337 yards and a score and the New Orleans Saints crushed the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 35-28 as Drew Brees breezed to count ‘em uno, dos, tres, quarto TD’s and 377 passing yards.

Half of the World Series is set and the Detroit Tigers are waiting for the other half to be set as the San Francisco Giants forced Game 7 as they blasted the defending champs St. Louis Cardinals 6-1 as Ryan Vogelsong struck out 9 batters to tie the series 3-3 and tonight, both teams are back on the mound to determine who moves on to the World Series.

Kicking off this Spiritual Sports Segment with Round 2 of your NFL Scores as the Dallas Cowboys made life miserable for the Carolina Panthers and Cam Newton as Newton was sacked twice and Tony Romo passed for 227 yards and a score as the Cowboys get past the Panthers 19-14, the Houston Texans literally spanked the Baltimore Ravens 43-13 as Matt Schaub threw for 256 yards and a TD as the Texans score a franchise record in points and amassed 420 yards, the Jacksonville Jaguars had a rough day as their star running back in Maurice Jones-Drew and starting QB Blaine Gabbert were both knocked out of the game, but team held their own but they lost in overtime to the Oakland Raiders 26-23 as Carson Palmer passed for 298 yards and a score, while in another overtime game, the New York Jets had victory in reach but Mark Sanchez was sacked and fumbled the ball in OT that allowed the New England Patriots to secure the 29-26 win as Tom Brady passed for 259 yards and 2 TD’s and in the Sunday Night feature game, the Pittsburgh Steelers had a hard time shaking the Cincinnati Bengals but were victorious 24-17 with 278 passing yards from Ben Rothlisberger.

Kansas Speedway was the next stop on the schedule for the Race for the Cup as the surfaced was recently repaved experienced a record 14 cautions, which was a season high in the Sprint Cup Series and after banging his Ford into the wall midway during through the race, Matt Kenseth still had enough to not only finish the race, but won his 2nd race of the chase.  Brad Keselowski still maintains his 7 point lead over Jimmie Johnson in the Sprint Cup Standings, Denny Hamlin is 3rd, while Clint Bowyer is 4th and Kasey Kahne is 5th.

Major League Soccer had three games on the field of play as the San Jose Earthquakes played to a 2-2 tie against the LA Galaxy, the Vancouver Whitecaps was SHUT OUT by the Portland Timbers 1-0 and Seattle Sounders FC cruised past FC Dallas 3-1.
