              his new helmet designed
             to lessen concussions

Rice was no match for
                Brittney Griner's 35 points
The Ladies only had two ranked games in action last night in Women’s College Basketball as 3rd ranked Baylor simply befuddled and blasted Rice 89-49 as Brittney Griner made the nets sizzle with a season high of 35 points and 24th ranked Iowa State literally smoked, literally smothered, and literally smacked Drake upside the head 87-45 as Hallie Christofferson poured in a double-double of 20 points and 10 boards and for some unranked scores, South Carolina State in the MEAC pummeled South Wesleyan 94-46 and in the SWAC, Mississippi Valley State lost by a couple points to Ole Miss 62-60, Tennessee Tech crushed Alcorn State 74-57 to keep them winless thus far this season and Grambling State was pasted by Wichita State 62-44 as they also remain without a win.

Cody Zeller and the Hoosiers
ran the Tar Heels out of the gym!
The men in college basketball on the other hand had four games that tipped off last night as the top ranked team in the land in Indiana totally manhandled 14th ranked North Carolina 83-59 in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge as Cody Zeller led all scorers with 20 points, 3rd ranked Michigan outlasted 18th ranked North Carolina State 79-72 with 11 assists and 18 points from Trey Burke, double overtime was needed to settle the score between Texas Southern and 19th ranked Colorado as the Buffalos avoided the upset and remain undefeated with the 85-80 win over the Tigers with 24 points from Spencer Dinwiddle and #21 Minnesota defeated Florida State 77-68 with 16 points from Joe Coleman.

The Father of the MLBPA,
Marvin Miller passes at the age of 95
In sporting news, you would think the man known as ‘The Father of the MLBPA’ would have his named enshrined in the Baseball Hall of Fame, but if you know baseball, you would know better.  Marvin Miller, former executive director of the player’s union passed away at the tender age of 95 as his Manhattan home yesterday.  Miller was largely responsible for athletes becoming millionaires as he led baseball players in a series of strikes and legal battles that won free agency.  Under his leadership, he would not only revolutionize baseball, but the entire sports world as he changed the business of sports and according to former baseball commissioner Fay Vincent, he “emancipated the baseball player and in the process, all professional athletes.”  Miller led the first walk out in 1972 and under his leadership; Major League Baseball witnessed revenue skyrocketing from $50 million in 1967 to well over $7 billion dollars today.  However, with all his accomplishments not only in game of baseball, but with other sports that benefited from his pioneering efforts, baseball’s Hall of Fame has shut the door on him.  Rest in peace Marvin and perhaps the Hall of Fame will finally give you your flowers that you well deserve.
