For your National League scores in Major League Baseball, the Chicago Cubs defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 3-2 with a homer from Nate Schierholtz, the San Diego Padres got past the New York Mets as Jedd Gyorko’s 1st major league RBI proved to be difference, the Miami Marlins were pounded by the Washington Nationals 6-1 as the Nats get the early season sweep, and the Philadelphia Phillies SHUT OUT and pasted the Atlanta Braves 2-0 as Cliff Lee pitched 8 scoreless innings and had the same amount of strike outs.

The National Hockey League had a plethora of games last night on the ice as the New Jersey Devils were SHUT OUT 1-0 by the Boston Bruins, the Philadelphia Flyers rubbed off the Toronto Maple Leafs 5-3, the New York Islanders were defeated in a shoot-out 2-1 against the Washington Capitals, the Tampa Bay Lighting SHUT OUT and manhandled the Carolina Hurricanes 5-0, the Winnipeg Jets were creamed by the Montreal Canadiens 4-1, the Columbus Blue Jackets skated past the Nashville Predators 3-1, while the St. Louis Blues defeated the Chicago Blackhawks 4-3 in a shoot-out, the Detroit Red Wings fell 4-2 to the Phoenix Coyotes, the Edmonton Oilers were SHUT OUT and lambasted by the Vancouver Canucks 4-0 and the Minnesota Wild also was SHUT OUT by the defending champions LA Kings 3-0.

For your 2nd Segment Quick News & Notes, Jason Hanson, the Detroit Lions' kicker is retiring after 21 seasons, announcing his decision Thursday, the NFL found no specific violations in its investigation into allegations that draft prospects were improperly asked about their sexual orientation during the scouting combine in Indianapolis, while Miami Heat star Chris Bosh was out celebrating his birthday at a Morocco-themed party complete with live camels, police said Thursday that thieves made off with about $340,000 in jewelry from the player's nearby home, an apparent inside job, former Auburn coach Gene Chizik on Thursday called a report that alleged Auburn paid players and changed their grades under his leadership "long on accusation and inference, but short on facts and logic", Jim Larranaga, Miami’s men’s basketball coach was tabbed The Associated Press’ Coach of the Year, and finally, an attorney for Eric Murdock, Rutgers' former director of player development for men's basketball, sought $950,000 from the university as settlement for Murdock's wrongful termination claims.
