New Year’s Day was filled College Football Bowl Action with six games on the Grid Iron as Mississippi State was roughed up by 20th ranked Northwestern 34-20 in the Taxslayer.com Gator Bowl as Northwestern’s defense had four interceptions with one being returned for a TD by Quentin Williams as Northwestern wins their first bowl game since 1949, Oklahoma State literally smoked, literally smothered and literally smashed, Alliteration, I Love It, Purdue 58-14 in the Heart of Dallas Bowl as Clint ‘Double C’ Chelf had 197 passing yards and not one, not two, but three TD’s, in the Outback Bowl, 10th ranked South Carolina rallied past 18th ranked Michigan 33-28 with 341 passing yards total from Conner Shaw and Dylan Thompson and 2 TD’s apiece, while 7th ranked Georgia demolished 16th ranked Nebraska 45-31 in the Capital One Bowl as Aaron Murray was surgical with the pigskin with 427 passing yards and count ‘em uno, dos, tres, quarto, cinco TD’s, the Granddaddy of them all in the Rose Bowl witnessed 6th ranked Stanford holding off Wisconsin 20-14 as Stepfan Taylor rushed for a TD and in the Orange Bowl, 12th ranked Florida State clobbered 15th ranked Northern Illinois 31-10 as Lonnie Pryor rushed for 134 ground pounding yards and 2 TD’s.

The National Basketball Association had six games on New Year’s Day as the Dallas Mavericks defeated the Washington Wizards 103-94 as Vince Carter led all scorers with 23 points, A’mare Stoudemire make his return to the court for the New York Knicks, but it they fell to the Portland Trailblazers 105-100 with 26 points from Nicolas Batum, the Sacramento Kings was jumped by the Detroit Pistons 103-97  with 20 points from Brandon Knight, while the Atlanta Hawks outlast the New Orleans Hornets 95-86 with Josh Smith’s double-double of 23 points and 13 rebounds, as the LA Clippers celebrated a New Year, they will need to start a new streak as their 17 game winning streak concluded with a 92-78 beat down from the Denver Nuggets with 17 points from Danilo Gallinari and 12 assists from Andre Miller and my LA Lakers were sent packing again, this time by the Philadelphia 76ers 103-99 with 26 points from Jrue Holiday to go along with 10 assists.

The Lady Aggies of 24th ranked Texas A&M was the only ranked Women’s College Basketball team in action as they pasted Rice 80-57 as Kelsey Bone played outside of her mind with a double-double of 24 points and 14 rebounds.

Tom Corbett of Pennsylvania said Tuesday he plans to sue the NCAA in federal court over stiff sanctions imposed against Penn State University in the wake of the Jerry Sandusky child sexual abuse scandal, David Price, the American League Cy Young Award winner, has reached agreement on a one-year contract worth a little more than $10 million with the Tampa Bay Rays to avoid salary arbitration, and finally, free-agent pitcher Brett Myers has reached agreement on a one-year contract with the Cleveland Indians pending a physical exam.
