The National Basketball Association had a plethora of games that waged on yesterday as the LA Clippers demolished the New York Knicks 102-88 as Jamal “Hot Plate” Crawford netted 27 points, my LA Lakers were outgunned by the defending champions Miami Heat 107-97 as LeBron James threw down 32 points, not one, not two, but three overtimes were needed as the Boston Celtics got past the Denver Nuggets 118-114 with a cold blooded triple-double from Paul Pierce of 27 points, 14 rebounds and 14 dimes, the New Orleans Hornets were pummeled by the Toronto Raptors 102-89 with 20 points from Rudy Gay, my home-city Orlando Magic snapped their 12 game losing streaking by defeating the Portland Trailblazers 110-104 with 22 points from JJ Reddick off the bench, while the Minnesota Timberwolves were grizzled on by the Memphis Grizzlies 105-88 with 18 points from Tayshaun Prince, the San Antonio Spurs used Tony Parker’s 29 points and 11 assists to blast the Brooklyn Nets 111-86, the OKC Thunder manhandled the Phoenix Suns 97-69 with 26 points from Russell Westbrook and the Houston Rockets were stunned by the Sacramento Kings 117-111 as John Salmons and Isaiah Thomas each netted 23 points.

There were some Big Time Upsets in Men’s College Basketball on Saturday and Sunday proved the same as 7th ranked Arizona was UPSET by unranked Cal 77-69 as Allen Crabbe was on fire with 31 points, 18th ranked Minnesota was UPSET by unranked Illinois 57-53 as Tyler Griffey notched 16 points off the bench, top ranked Indiana bounced back with a dominating win against 10th rank Ohio State 81-68 with 26 career high points from Victor Oladipo, while 9th ranked Syracuse clobbered, contained and cruised, Alliteration, I Love It, to a 77-58 win over St. John’s with 17 points from C. J. Fair and 4th ranked Duke escaped an upset by getting the one point win over Boston College 62-61 with Mason Plumlee’s 19 points and 10 boards.

Women’s College Basketball was jammed packed with games as I run down the top eight ranked games on Sunday as #3 UConn simply crushed DePaul 91-44 with 23 points from Stefanie Dolson, 4th ranked Stanford dismantled Arizona State 69-45 as Chiney Ogwumike did what does with a queen sized double-double of 26 points and 14 boards, just like their basketball brothers, 6th ranked Cal got the win over Arizona 91-86 for their 9th straight win, 8th ranked Penn State literally smacked Michigan State upside the head 71-56 as Alex Bentley scored 24 points, while 9th ranked Georgia was UPSET 62-54 by unranked LSU, 10th ranked Kentucky simply befuddled Vanderbilt 75-53 as A’dia Mathies netted a career high of 28 points, 12th ranked Tennessee buried Ole Miss 97-68 with 24 points from Meighan Simmons and 13th ranked Purdue was UPSET by unranked Michigan 67-56 as Katie Thompson was en fuego with 26 points including six 3 pointers setting the schools single season record.

Skating over to the frozen court in the National Hockey League, the defending champions LA Kings were defeated by the Detroit Red Wings 3-2, the Edmonton Oilers blew past the Columbus Blue Jackets 3-1, the Boston Bruins muscled past the Buffalo Sabres 3-1, while the Tampa Bay Lighting was lite up by the New York Rangers 5-1, the New Jersey Devils skated past the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-1 and the Chicago Blackhawks SHUT OUT the Nashville Predators 3-0.
