The National Basketball Association had eight games on the slate last night and witnessed Superman aka Dwight Howard returning to Krypton aka Orlando as my home-city Magic was ousted by my LA Lakers 106-97 as Howard tied free-throw attempts with 39 and converted 20 of ‘em his dominated the game with 39 points, 16 monster rebounds and 3 glorious blocks, the Charlotte Bobcats waxed, walloped, and whipped, Alliteration, I Love It, the Boston Celtics 100-74 as Gerald Henderson lite up the scoreboard for 35 points, the Washington Wizards came up short 95-90 against the Cleveland Cavaliers with 20 points from Dion Waiters, the New Orleans Hornets were dusted by the Brooklyn Nets 108-98 as Brook Lopez led all scorers with 26 points, while the defending champions Miami Heat’s win streak continues to roll as they clobbered the Atlanta Falcons 98-81 with 23 points from Dwayne Wade, the Dallas Mavericks used clutch playmaking from Vince Carter’s 23 points to mount a comeback against the Milwaukee Bucks 115-108, the Minnesota Timberwolves shocked the league as they literally smacked the San Antonio Spurs upside the head 107-83 as Ricky Rubio notched his 1st triple-double of 21 points, 13 boards and 12 dimes and the Memphis Grizzlies outlasted the Portland Trailblazers 102-97 with 19 points and 10 rebounds from Zach Randolph.

Men’s College Basketball didn’t have any ranked games last night but plenty of action was to be had as LIU Brooklyn powered past Mount St. Mary’s 91-70 as C. J. Garner, no relation, made the nets sing out loud with his 31 points as they captured their 3rd Northeast Conference Title and punch their ticket to the Big Dance, South Florida was knocked off by Seton Hall 46-42 with 17 points from Fuquan Edwin, the Summit League Title went to South Dakota State as they defeated North Dakota State 73-67 as Nate Wolters played like a man with 27 points, Valpariso punched their ticket with a 62-54 win against Wright State as they won the Horizon League Title behind 22 points from Erik Buggs and Rutgers baptized DePaul 76-57 as Wally Judge capped off a double-double of 20 points and 10 boards.

For your NFL Quick Hits, now that Free Agency is off and running, here is a run-down on who is going where:
•           The Miami Dolphins have signed free-agent wide receiver Mike Wallace for a five year deal worth $60 million dollars and thirty of those millions are guaranteed
•           The Chicago Bears agreed to terms Tuesday on a four-year deal worth $20 million dollars with former New York Giants tight end Martellus Bennett
•           The Cleveland Browns and pass-rushing linebacker Paul Kruger have reached an agreement on a five-year contract worth $40 million

And for some other NFL news, Tony Gonzalez informed the Atlanta Falcons on Tuesday that he will return to play in the 2013 season, the Philadelphia Eagles released former Pro Bowl cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha on Tuesday, the Buffalo Bills are moving on without Ryan Fitzpatrick, releasing the quarterback after two-plus inconsistent seasons as starter and finally, now that Peyton Manning passed his physical, a clause in his contract guarantees him $40 million over the next two years.

Women’s College Basketball had only one ranked game and it was a biggin’ as 2nd ranked Norte Dame battled 3rd ranked UConn for the Big East Title and with 1.8 seconds left, Natalie Achonwa’s lay-up sealed the deal and gave the Lady Irish the 61-59 victory over the Lady Huskies as Kayla McBride led all scorers with 23 points and hand UConn their first loss in the Big East this season.
