            Championship Week rolled on in Men’s College Basketball as eleven ranked games played starting with 4th ranked Louisville demolishing Villanova 74-55 with 28 basket filling points from Russ Smith, 5th ranked Georgetown blasted Cincinnati 62-43 as Otto Porter, Jr. scored 18 points, 6th ranked Michigan powered past Penn State 83-66 with Trey Burke’s 21 points, 7th ranked Kansas literally smacked Texas Tech upside the head 91-63 as Ben McLemore notched 24 points, 11th ranked Kansas State lassoed Texas 66-49 with 24 points from Rodney McGruder, 12th ranked Marquette was UPSET by 24th ranked Norte Dame 73-65 as Pat Connaughton notched 18 points, while 14th ranked Oklahoma State slipped past Baylor 74-72 with 21 points from Marcus Smart, 17th ranked Pittsburgh lost 62-59 against 19th ranked Syracuse with James Southerland pouring in 20 points, 18th ranked Arizona got past Colorado 79-69 as Nick Johnson scored 18 points, 20th ranked Memphis tamed Tulane 81-68 as Chris Crawford came out of his chair on the bench and ac-counted for 24 points, Alliteration, I Love It, and #21 UCLA survived 80-75 against Arizona State with 20 points from Larry Drew, II.

            For your NFL Quick Hits, here more free agent moves around the league as the Atlanta Falcons agreed to terms with Steven Jackson, considered the top free-agent running back, on a three-year, $12 million deal, Matt Cassel who was released by the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday, was signed by the Minnesota Vikings a one-year, $4 million deal, the Philadelphia Eagles have made a splash in their defensive backfield, signing cornerback Cary Williams and safety Kenny Phillips, in addition, they also signed outside linebacker Connor Barwin to a six-year, $36 million deal, defensive end Michael Bennett and the Seattle Seahawks have agreed to terms on a one-year, $5 million deal, former Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Keenan Lewis signed a five-year deal with the New Orleans Saints worth a maximum value of $26.3 million, including $10.5 million guaranteed, former Seattle Seahawks running back and return specialist Leon Washington has signed with the New England Patriots, and finally, the Kansas City Chiefs reached agreement on a three-year contract with cornerback Sean Smith, and the deal is worth $18 million, including $11 million guaranteed.

             There weren’t any ranked ladies games in Women’s College Basketball but plenty of games during Championship Week as I highlight the games in the HBCU starting with the SWAC as Mississippi Valley State knocked off Alabama A&M 63-60 with 17 points from Ms. Stallings and Ms. Scott scored 17 points off the bench to lead Prairie View over Jackson State 66-60 and in the MEAC, Morgan State was defeated by Howard 62-60 with a sweet double-double from Ms. Doyle of 23 points and 12 rebounds and it was another tight game as Coppin State got past South Carolina State 55-53 with 18 points from Ms. Spotwood.

             The National Hockey League was skating all over the ice last night as the Anaheim Ducks needed a shoot-out to get past the Dallas Stars 2-1, the Florida Panthers were trounced by the Boston Bruins 4-1, the Pittsburgh Penguins toppled the Toronto Maple Leafs 3-1, the Washington Capitals defeated the Carolina Hurricanes 3-2, the Chicago Blackhawks needed a shoot-out to get past the Columbus Blue Jackets 2-1, the New York Islanders SHUT OUT the Tampa Bay Lighting 2-0, while the New York Rangers lost to the Winnipeg Jets 3-1, the Phoenix Coyotes were SHUT OUT by the St. Louis Blues 3-0, the Colorado Avalanche was punished by the Minnesota Wild 5-3, the Nashville Predators were manhandled by the Vancouver Canucks 7-4 and the defending champions LA Kings were bitten by the San Jose Sharks 4-3.

             For your 2nd Segment Quick News & Notes, Denny Hamlin has dropped his plans to appeal the $25,000 fine issued by NASCAR for what the governing body called "disparaging remarks'' about the new Sprint Cup car, Dale Earnhardt Jr. once again is the highest paid driver in NASCAR, according to Forbes, with $12.9 million coming from salary/winnings and $13 million from endorsements, totaling $25 million, Jonathan Duncan, the NCAA's interim director of enforcement said Thursday that his charge is to restore confidence in the investigative staff and process and he has 18 months to do so, investigators in North Carolina say a Georgia-based sports agent violated sports agent laws by sending cash payments and other benefits to former Tar Heels football players, and finally, the National Hockey League announced Thursday that its proposed realignment plan is a go for next season after getting approval from the board of governors and will place several clubs in more geographically appropriate groupings.
