March Madness Day One, 1st Half & NBA Scores & NFL Quick Hits: 3/22 - 1st Edition - Vol. 335

             March Madness was off and running yesterday as the Big Dance kicked off with the 1st day of teams in the hunt to cut down the nets and have their One Shining Moment as I run off the 1st eight games of scores with 3rd seeded Michigan State defeating 14th seeded Valparaiso 65-54 as Derrick Nix delivered 23 points and 15 rebounds, 6th seeded Butler pasted 11th seeded Bucknell 68-56 with 17 points from Rotnei Clarke, 8th seeded Pitt was literally smacked upside the head by 9th seeded Wichita State 73-55 as Malcolm Armstead poured in 22 points, 4th seeded Saint Louis demolished 13th seeded New Mexico State 64-44 as Dwayne Evans netted 24 points, while 6th seeded Memphis edged out 11th seeded Saint Mary’s 54-52 as Joe Jackson scored 14 points, 3rd seeded Marquette got the one point win over 14th seeded Davidson 59-58 as Vander Blue scored 16 points and last second layup to seal the deal, top seeded Gonzaga avoided a major upset by holding on against 16th seeded Southern University 64-58 as Kelly Olynyk notched a double-double of 21 points and 10 rebounds and after the game Southern’s Human Jukebox jammed in defeat and 12th seeded Oregon capsized and UPSET 5th seeded Oklahoma State 68-55 as Damyean Dotson scored 17 points and Kazemi Arsalan grabbed 17 rebounds off the glass.  Make sure you keep it locked for my 2nd second segment as I run down the 2nd half of scores.

            The fellows that play for the pay in the National Basketball Association had three games on tap as the Portland Trailblazers ran past the Chicago Bulls 99-89 with 28 basket filling points from LaMarcus Aldridge, the Denver Nuggets got the measly one point win 101-100 over the Philadelphia 76ers as Corey Brewer was on fire with 29 points and the Sacramento Kings knocked off the Minnesota Timberwolves 101-98 as Isaiah Thomas filled it up with 24 points.

             For your NFL Quick Hits, safety and Super Bowl Champion with the Baltimore Ravens, Bernard Pollard agreed to a one-year deal with the Tennessee Titans on Thursday, the Arizona Cardinals on Thursday agreed to a one-year contract with defensive end Frostee Rucker, more trouble for former NFL’er Sam Hurd as a federal grand jury in Dallas has re-indicted former wide receiver Sam Hurd with conspiracy to possess 5 kilograms or more of cocaine with intent to distribute, as he is already is accused of trying to establish a drug-distribution network, Kansas City Chiefs left tackle Branden Albert signed his franchise tender Thursday and will make $9.828 million, former Miami Dolphins wide receiver Mark Duper was released from jail Thursday, charged after police say he beat his 17-year-old son during a series of fights at their Jacksonville home and finally, a partial power outage during this year's Super Bowl occurred because a relay device with a design defect malfunctioned, an outside expert confirmed Thursday….so it really wasn’t BeyoncĂ© that caused the power outage…..huh?!

            The Madness of March continues on as I run down the 2nd half of scores as top seeded Louisville literally spanked 16th seeded North Carolina A&T 79-48 as Russ Smith poured in 23 points, 4th seeded Michigan toppled 13th seeded South Dakota State 71-56 as basketball royalty Glenn Robinson, III and Tim Hardaway, Jr each notched 21 points, 6th seeded Arizona simply befuddled 11th seeded Belmont 81-64 as Mark Lyons roared to score 23 points, 12th seeded Cal UPSET 5th seeded UNLV 64-61 with 19 points from Allen Crabbe, while 8th seeded Colorado State cruised to victory over 9th seeded Missouri 84-72 as Dorian Green was en fuego with 26 points, 5th seeded VCU blasted, bamboozled and baptized, Alliteration, I Love It, 12th seeded Akron 88-42 as Troy Daniels scored 23 points, 14th seeded Harvard UPSET 3rd seeded New Mexico 68-62 as Wesley Saunders scored 18 points and 4th seeded Syracuse whipped Montana like they stole the O out of their Orange 81-34, ouch, with 20 points from Brandon Triche.  Well, after a day of games, my bracket suffered some bumps and couple bruises, but still intact with a percentage of 83.8.  What has your bracket done for you today…..huh?!

           Arnold Palmer’s Invitational at Bay Hill Club & Lodge teed off yesterday in my home-city Orlando with a purse of $6.2 million and Justin Rose is rolling with a 7 under par atop of the leaderboard, John Huh is 2nd at 5 under, John Rollins and Brad Fritsch are tied for third with a 4 under par and there are a plethora of golfers tied for fifth at 3 under including Tiger Woods.
