Kevin Durant scorched on offense,
but he was stellar on defense too
Steph Curry's acrobatic shot
After a looooong hiatus and a total of nine days off for the Golden State Warriors, the NBA Finals finally kicked off last night as the Cleveland Cavaliers journeyed to the Bay Area to defend their title against those Warriors, who won their first title in 40 years against the Cavs two years ago. In fact, this marked the first time in NBA history in which the same two teams faced off in The Finals for three consecutive years. When the Warriors score at least 35 points in the first quarter, they are 21 – 0 this season and that’s exactly what they did last night outscoring the Cavs by 5 in the 1st. Both defenses clamped down in the 2nd, as the Warriors scored 10 less points and the Cavs scored 8 less, as the Warriors took a 60 – 52 advantage into halftime. But the 3rd belonged to the Warriors as they cranked up the offense and roared by the Cavs by 13 and orchestrated lock-down defense that had the Cavs wondering what had happened as the Warriors went on to decimate, dominate and demolish, Alliteration, I Love It, the Cavs 113 – 91 as Kevin Durant joined Shaq, Jordon and Rick Barry as the only players to score 25+ points in their first 6 NBA Finals game as he scorched the Cavs with 38 points and dished out 8 assists and grabbed 8 boards. Steph Curry also Showed Up & Showed Out with a double-double and notched 28 points and dropped 10 dimes. As for the Cavs, LeBron James nearly had a quadruple double with 28 points, 15 rebounds, 8 assists and unfortunately for James, he also had 8 turnovers to contribute to the Cavs total of 20 and compared to only four TO’s for the Warriors, which tied for the fewest in a game in Finals history. As for Klay Thompson, he continues to struggle offensively during these playoffs as he was 3 – 16 shooting, but he had a +8 rating in the +/- department solely because of his defense, as he contested 10 of 12 of the Cavs shots as a primary defender and the Cavs were only 1 of 12 on those shots. The Warriors are now 13 – 0 in postseason, which ties a NBA record as they looked to break that record in Game 2 on Sunday.

Happy Birthday!!!
