David West & Tristan Thompson
trying to figure what each had
for their pre-game meal
After forcing the Golden State Warriors to put their brooms back in the closet in Game 4, the Cleveland Cavaliers were looking to hold off the champagne in Game 5 as they battled the Warriors back in Cali-for-ni-a! As I have mentioned several times in past shows, when the Warriors scored at least 35 points in the 1st quarter, they were undefeated all season long. But in Game 4 and in Game 5, they came up a weeee bit short of 35 as the Cavs were not taking any jive and came out scorching hot and scored 37 as the Cavs were rolling right along. But in the 2nd, it was the Warriors who said our turn, not only on the offensive end as they notched 38, but also on the defensive end and held the Cavs to 23 points and turned a four point deficit at the end of the 1st to an 11 point lead going into halftime 71 – 60. But with 3:08 left before the half, emotions ran high as three technical fouls were featured on one play as David West and Kyrie Irvin were entangled after battling for the rebound and Tristan Thompson entered the scrum and was eventually assessed a technical foul as well. But after West and Thompson smelled what pre-game meal each other had, calmer heads prevailed.

Kevin Durant snagged 1st NBA Title &
Finals MVP
In the 2nd half, it was a see-saw of the 1st as the Cavs went on a run behind LeBron James’ double-double of 41 points and 13 rebounds as he became the first player in NBA Finals history to average a triple-double. But at the end of the 3rd, the Warriors would have a five point lead and never let it go as they went on to outscore the Cavs in the 4th as the Warriors calmly cruised to the championship, Alliteration, I Love It, 129 – 120 with a postseason run of 16 – 1, which is the best winning percentage of any title winning team at .941 as the Warriors clinched their second title in three years. Kevin Durant took some heat for joining the Warriors, but like Dottie Peoples hit song, Durant said I’ll Show Up & Show Out with 39 points and clinched his first title along with Finals MVP, the third player to win MVP in first year with the team. His running mate in Steph Curry put up a double-double of 34 points and 10 dimes. Two major differences in the game was the minus 23 for Kevin Love with only 6 points (he’ll be traded) and the Warriors bench outscored the Cavs bench 35 – 7. Ouch.
