The Bayou Classic 2017 |
The
SWAC in Week 13 was the only major HBCU Football Conference that witnessed
games on the gridiron yesterday as I kick it off with The Bayou Classic at the
Mercedes-Benz Superdome in the N. O. as Grambling matched up against Southern
as they were competing to advance to the last SWAC Championship game to be held
right here in the City of Houston on Saturday, December 2, but I digress as the
game was close with less than five minutes remaining until Martez Carter ran it
in from 11 yards for the score and he finished with 92 rushing yards and scored
another TD on a catch and quarterback Devante Kincaide threw for 171 yards and the
aforementioned TD and also ran it in for a score as Grambling knock off
Southern 30 – 21 to move on to the SWAC Championship to face off against Alcorn
State.

Niko Hollins passed for 3 TD's!! |
The
only other game on tap, which I covered at BBVA Compass Stadium, was a rescheduled
game due to Hurricane Harvey as Texas Southern was trying wrap up their season
in a positive manner against their in state rival in Prairie View. TSU would
strike first with a field goal and after that, they were playing from behind the
entire game as Prairie View, despite 17 penalties for 179 yards, used the arm
of quarterback Neiko Hollins to pass for 319 yard and not one, not two, but
three TD’s as PV went on to crush TSU 30 – 16 to claim bragging rights for the
next year.
