Hop Twist as I Sprinkle a Little Spiritually in your Sports! Without further
delay, Let’s Chop It Up!!
The MEAC had it going on with technically three
games on tap as the fourth game between Florida A&M and North Carolina
A&T was postponed due to Nasty Nestor of a Tropical Storm as the game was
to pushed to Sunday, but I digress as South Carolina State didn’t play nice
with Morgan State and handed them their sixth loss 24 – 10 as QB Corey Fields
threw for two TD’s and his running back Labron Morris touted the rock for 125
ground pounding yards and a score. Delaware State matched up against out of
conference foe Merrimack and basically got smacked 30 - 21 as Christian Carter
notched 194 passing yards and a score and 64 rushing yards and another score and
finally, Bethune Cookman tussled with Norfolk State as the Wildcats broke loose
from the Spartans in the 2nd half to claim victory 35 – 22 as
Akevious Williams racked up 274 passing yard and two TD’s and he also added a
rush TD.
Moving on to the SWAC, Jackson State needed overtime
to take care of business 31 – 28 against Mississippi Valley State as Derrick
Ponder lead the charge with 194 passing yards with two TD’s and Kymani Clark
steamrolled the Delta Devils with 171 earth shaking rushing yards and a score.
Texas Southern had a no quit spirit with 14 points scored in the 4th
quarter, but it was not enough as they dropped their 7th game to
remain win less on the season against Southern 28 – 21 as Glendon McDaniel threw
not one, not two but three TD’s with 252 passing yards and finally, it was
homecoming for the Panthers of Prairie View as they were literally spanked and SHUT
OUT Virginia Lynchburg 51 – 0, 51 – Nothing, 51 – Zilch, 51…you get what I’m
trying to say as PV rushed for a whopping 294 yards and QB Tyriek Starks
accounted for two TD’s.
Here’s a run-down of the top teams in the MEAC
conference as Bethune Cookman sits atop of the conference at 4 – 0, FAMU is 2nd
at 3 – 0, North Carolina A&T is 3rd at 2 – 0 and coming in 4th
is South Carolina State at 2 – 1.
Your conference standings in the SWAC has Alcorn
State holding down the number one spot in the East at 3 – 0 and Alabama State
at #2 with 2 wins and 1 loss and in the West, Southern is sitting on top at 3 –
0 and coming in 2nd is Arkansas Pine Bluff at 2 – 1.
